demuire Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 I'm considering learning how to fibreglass properly (I've patched my front spoiler several times and done other simple jobs like that but never anything full on), so have been wandering around the Internet (remember: if it's on the Internet, then it must be true) looking for advice and tips and stuff. Came across this page, thought it was interesting. Anyone else here done any firbreglassing work? Quote
Tiger Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 (edited) Alot of my friends do fibreglassing... I'm yet to take it on personally. I'll be attemoting it on my car though.. in the boot.. and MAYBE in cabin :) Edited June 21, 2005 by Tiger Quote

Tiger Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 NICE :D That would be very handy for you. Especially if you aren't well acquainted with dealing with glass and the resin (which gets you high DAMN quick)... Ask Marc Rushton on this one... He's dealt with fibreglass throughout the the years (made him sound ancient for a moment :)) sorry dude! hahahaha But he could give you some sound advice. Quote
demuire Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 Tiger: Have done some small jobs with fibreglass, but just repair jobs. I'd like to learn how to actually make stuff. Quote

demuire Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 I'd love to learn how to TIG weld. I can sort of MIG weld, but I'm really crap at it. Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 i have lots of experience in 'glass, we built the Mach5 from speedracer, and started doing repops of the original Batmobile i took my original Cricket dash, bogged up the cracks, inserted 3 spray can tops over the passenger side and one top in the bottom corner of the driver's side coted it in gelcoat, let it dry for a week (longer than required) then waxed the shit outta it. this made the plug. coated it with gelcoat again, then used the chopgun to lay in the 'glass. In this application, it should have been cloth instead of chop, but since i wasn't paying for any of the materials, and he was spraying chop anyway, it just got done. this made the mold. then wax the shit outta it again, spray gelcoat, chop (or cloth) run all the air bubbles outta it, and you got a part. getting it outta the mold was a pain in the ass, and my original dash was destroyed in the process. i've got guages in the 3 spray can tops and my tach is in the 4th it's a real pain in the ass for a onetime use, but if your gonna make parts and sell them, go for it i will post pocs when i get her out here, 3 weeks Quote
