Hi all,

 

Well after destroying the diff in my ke55 i found myself with the need to pull the diff out of my ke30...it all seemed well and simple to my brain and everything went along with only a few minor bumps and i got a few other things fixed while i was tinkering around yay!!

 

So driving along once the new diff is in, everything seems to be all well and good, but i had this dawning realisation that the red rocket isnt changing out of 2nd unless i go past 70 and kicks back into 2nd by itself rather harshly as soon as i slow below 60...this is as far as my knowledge of diffs and gear ratios goes as I'm learning the corollas as i go along.

 

I'm hoping someone with more experience on here can help...ive pulled the diff out of a 3spd auto ke30 and into a 3 spd auto ke55 only differences being ke30 is a 3k and ke55 is a 4k.

 

i for one am stumped and my dads advice was to buy a real car :D

mmm, what auto do you have? BW or Jap.

If it's BW it could the the vacum line to the back of the auto has been knocked off, it's for the kick down.

 

It looks like a round canister with a hose going into it. About 50 mm in Dia.

 

If it's a japan one, check the kick down cable that's it's not tight.

 

Shouldn't be anything to do with the diff.

um so you changed your diff now your auto isnt changing gears as it should?

Well although it still seems a little off it appears to have righted itself...I'm guessing it just needed a bit to wear itself in and get the parts moving in place. thnks guys

Not realy into autos but did you loose any gearoil when doing the swap? Could be a good time to give it a oilchange..

while were on topic of diffs, i want too change the dif out on my ke36, reason being is I'm after more acceleration out of the car, what dif do i put into it? its manual btw if that helps

I've never owned an auto either. So does any gearbox oil drain out of auto's if you remove the tailshaft?

The reason i ask is that you may have pulled out the shaft when you pulled out the diff......and lost some oil that way. Just a thought as i know bugger all about Auto's.

Pretty normal to loose some of the transmission fluid if the tailshaft has come out, and that will definitely change its shift behaviour if the level was not checked.

I assume we're talking about a trimatic here....
