BO55KE Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Hi guys, I am currently on the lookout for a Ke30, that i then immediately plan to do a motor/gearbox conversion to. I have the time because i've still got 4 months till i get my licence back. However the issue is what motor to go for?? The car will be used as both a daily and weekender, so I'm possibly steering away from a rotor (plus i don't really have the funds to do a rebuild every 30 seconds!) :lolcry: A mate of mine (mechanic) has said to go 4agze, take the supercharger off and replace it with a turbo? I'm maybe thinking to go NA, because Turbo's are eventually gunna give me more headaches and cost more!! :( So I'm thinking 4age or sr20de?? :hmm: I'm really doing my head in! Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Anthony Quote
Evan G Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 leave it stock and let the 4k make your ears bleed :hmm: Quote
Beauc Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) Hey mate, 13bt in stock form will pull alot harder than a 4age or a sr, Its a huge misconception that rotaries need rebuilds often!!! Gone are the days in the 90's when people were trying to chase numbers with rotaries and didn't know how to build them right! Although a 4age will probably be your safest and easiest option. BO55KE Posted December 11, 2009 Author Report Posted December 11, 2009 EvanG - Hahahaha i could do that, leaving it stock is always another option! :hmm: Beauc - Thanks mate. I wanna go a rotor, coz I'm a rotor freak, although i still think it is safer to hold off until ive got more money! :( Is it true, that it would be better to stick with a toyota motor in a toyota, compared to any other make?? I refer to less headaches and what not! Quote
seabiscuit Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 Beauc - Thanks mate. I refer to less headaches and what not! To an extent. A 4A-GE is the only engine conversion that probably WON'T give you any major headaches. Oh, and T series engine. Once you start wanting to put anything else in, your mission becomes a lot more difficult. When people do an engine conversion on a K series Corolla, I'd say 90% of those are 4A-G(Z)E or T series engines. People are starting to make 4A > KE-Corolla conversion components! Besides. Toyota are coolest :) Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I still say we need more 1UZ Corolla's on here!! :y: ...or a nice little 2jz will do I spose. Garnett is looking in to a 1mz (punchy 3L V6 out of Avalon & Camry) conversion at the moment, that should be fun! :D I'm not much help am I? :) Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 12, 2009 Report Posted December 12, 2009 4AGE.. conversion bits are around.. 3SGE & 6spd.. Altezzas drop straight in... any 4cyl RWD motor and gearbox combo, like a Mazda MX5 1800 & 6speed, Honda S2000... I'd say keep it light and revvy! Quote
BO55KE Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 Seabiscuit - I really appreciate it man. I might just have to go 4AGE then! :y: Would you go 16V or 20V? 67Rolla-Ken - The 3L V6 conversion sounds monstrous - but your right your not helping hahaha ur just putting more ideas in my head! :) Quote

BO55KE Posted December 12, 2009 Author Report Posted December 12, 2009 Evan G - Hahaha V-tec + Digital dash = PORNO! :y: RedKE30 - I got a price the other day on a Silver top 20V front cut (Motor, gearbox, comp and loom) = $2,000. Fair enough price? Or rip off?? :) Also, would anyone know how much your everyday mechanic would normally charge for a Motor/gearbox conversion? Quote
