hey guys i was curious weather the dizzy has to be placed in the exact place it come out as i just bought my 4AGE BIG PORT and also what is the best gasket kit to use i was going to use a ACL monotoque full kit or is there something better

 

is the 4age a non interference motor?

What do you mean by "has to be placed in the exact place it come out" ? Do you mean by does it have to go back into the same hole or pick and stick it in another hole somewhere ?

 

Many many moons ago when i had a ae82 twinky the head gasket blew on it and cause i didn't have the time nor the patience to do it i sent it off to a RACQ certified mechanic who charged me, oh, about, 300 buckaroos for the head gasket. For that price you'd think it'd be damn well bloody good.

 

Only lasted 14-16 months.

 

Non-interference ? Yes.

Ok, now you know its a non-interference motor.

 

Next- The best gasket set is no doubt a factory Toyota one! For the best of the losers, I don't know.

 

Next- Yes, the distributor has to be timed exactly to coincide with the crankshaft, the same as the cams.

 

The fact that you asked that question rings alarm bells about your ability to make this motor work, so I suggest you do a lot of reading about how all the bits of an engine work together. There is stacks of really good stuff on the net.

 

Make sure you thoroughly know how an engine works before you hit the 'start' button, or have a mate who is a mechanic go over everything you've touched.

Yes this can be done, you can use a crank angle sensor. I'm not a full bottle on this but I decided against this as I'm not running an ECU. I think it's pricey but not sure.

 

I have the same issue with my KE20, I will be cutting my firewall and welding a box to allow room for the dizzy.

I have checked this with a pit inspector and as long as it is all welded up properly it is fine (in WA).

 

A topic on Club-K spoke about a relocation kit for $1K-2K... bit rich for me.

Guys, I'm sure Wez is asking about relocating the dizzy so it's not on the back of the motor.

 

Except he said he had a 4AGE bigport, which has the dizzy on the side of the engine in a RWD-friendly spot. It is only the FE heads and the 20vs which have it hanging off the end/back of the engine and thus give firewall problems in a RWD car.

hes talking about a bigport 4age, and that club-k thing is for a 20V.

 

bigport dizzy sticks out the side of a 4age bigport, so no dramas with firewalls.

 

now onto mr wezksev:

 

next time you post, please use sentences. a sentence incorporates 1 idea and explains it. if you have more than 1 idea, use more than 1 sentence. you have from what i can see 3 ideas, and i don't think you even have 1 sentence.... but from what ive gathered:

 

1) if you pull the dizzy out, yes it has to go back in a special way. I'm not going to say it has to go back in the same way it came out, as it may have been put in wrong in the first place. download the 4age manual and have a read. no your engine wont run if its put in wrong.

 

2) if you do a decent job any branded headgasket will be fine. just buy from a reputable company (acl, repco, burons etc) get the head overhauled if you are changing the gasket, with this they will skim the head to make it seal nice. also spend a few hours with a razor blade on your block, so it too seals well.

 

3) standard 4age bigports and small ports are non interference. i dunno about 20V's, but id assume yes they are as well. i think i read somewhere that all toyota engines with timing belts are non interference.
