jason12 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Hey guys, Ive got a block sitting here and the bores have dirt and stuff in them as it had been sitting in a shed without a head. How should i go about cleaning them up a bit so itd be suitable to use? Cheers, Jason Quote
Evan G Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) cylinder hone would be like $30? you mite need a ridge reamer if theres lip on the top of the cylinder check this blokes videos i reckon leave it to your machinist? Edited January 11, 2010 by Evan G Quote
Budowski Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 leave the dirt in there and pop a head on it, get it running and rev it to 5000rpm minimum and pour powdered ajax in the carby :jamie: Quote

SLO-030 Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Poor man's hone job. Got alot of people out of glazed bore/ring situations till a proper job coule be done :P Quote
philbey Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 we're only talking about getting the crud off the inside of his motor, just get shitloads of metho and a cleancloth, moisten rag, wipe it down, repeat. Keep changing the cloth to fresh ones and when you can wipe it and the rag is still clean, you're probably all good. Turn the motor over too bring anything sitting on top of the rings out. Quote
jason12 Posted January 11, 2010 Author Report Posted January 11, 2010 Thanks philbey thats all i needed to know, figured metho would do the trick but wasnt 100% sure. and budowski you shouldnt be giving bogus advice like that! Everyone knows that sand works heaps better.... Quote
Taz_Rx Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 ...and once you done it and have nice shiney bores again don't let them rust if it needs to shit for a while longer. Turn the motor over till all of the piston are level and then stick some oily rags into the bores. :P Quote
philbey Posted January 13, 2010 Report Posted January 13, 2010 yeh I usually wipe mine down with a smear of oil then cover them up once I've cleaned em Quote
