Vote 1 for Fook, 1st in class 3!

THANK YOU, I have my hopes up and am going for GOLD :D

I hope:

1) I drive as well as I know (or think I know) I can

2) My navigator gets us from A-B-C in the correct manner, in the right amount of time

3) The car (in particular, the gearbox) holds together

If 1, 2 and 3 happen, I think we stand a good chance of doing well in class :) We do have some stiff competition though, I hear that Peter Stamford is getting very very quick his his very very quick Escort...

Everyone on Rollaclub should come along, it'll be good fun.

Nick: No car? Navigate for Teddy. Or someone else, navigators are always in short supply and having been a navigator (my first event was me navigating for Craig in the Trueno), I can assure you it's just as much fun - just a different sort of fun.

This event is the event I look forward to for the ENTIRE YEAR, for the past 3 years. Yes, it's that good. Last year introduced what would have to be one of the best pieces of road I've ever driven - Prince Henry Drive at Toowoomba. And we get to drive that again this year. Also, UQ campus at Gatton, awesome piece of road.

Does anyone else know a link where i can read up more on this type of event, and how it works?

It's a touring road event. Exactly like a rally, except a lot more emphasis on the navigation.

IE, in a rally (dirt as well as tarmac), you've got your transport stages which is where you go between the speed stages, and you have like navigation, but the navigation is piss easy and if you'd have to try to get lost. Then you have speed stages which is, well you know what a speed stage is.

In a touring road event, you have the same, except the speed stages are usually a little shorter (or smaller), and the navigation is actually quite challenging. A lot more emphasis tends to be put on the navigation, maybe 80%, and 20% on speed, if that. So you have to do well in the navigation to put you into the top 10, and then you bump yourself up that couple more places in the speed.

Because of the big emphasis on the navigation, and the fact that the special stages tend to be smaller, lower powered cars aren't has handicapped, and you can actually win the event in a shitbox if you can steer it reasonably well.

It's a heap of fun for both the driver and the navigator. You need to have very good teamwork, and need to be on the ball for the entire day, it's absolutely awesome.

I don't have any links at the moment, but if you need some pointers to the sort of navigation that's involved etc, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Alternatively, there is an Information Night on Wednesday at the BSCC clubrooms about the event, and they'll tell you everything you need to know and then you can decide if you want to do it or not. You'll need a 2S licence and if you split the costs it's $60 each for the whole day, which is pretty darn good.

FYI, there are (I think) 2 touring road events in SEQ every year, there's the Coastal Challenge, and the Queensland Challenge (used to be known as Leyburn Challenge).

Coastal Challenge is run at the same time as ARC, and is up the Sunshine Coast way. Navigation tends to be quite hard, and not so many speed stages. Queensland Challenge goes out west toward Warwick, Toowoomba etc. Navigation challenging, but easier than Coastal Challenge, and lots more speed stages.

Joy and Fun :D

From everything I've heard, Teddy's KE70 will provide you with heaps more fun than Pinky ever could dream of.

As John says, "most Navigators are frustrated Drivers", ie most navigators are drivers who can't afford to drive. I fully agree with this statement.

Renewing your 2S licence is only a few paper forms away.
