madKE35coupe Posted February 14, 2010 Author Report Posted February 14, 2010 yeah well i will try and get down there soon. i know that the main thing they said they were getting most of their power is from a good port and polish. john said he had spent a few hours everyday for nearly 2 weeks porting that head, so they are pretty thorough.
snot35 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 We're interested in reliability too please! :)
philbey Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 yeh felix you got a good deal. All the machinist work on my 5K was about 1300 bucks worth.
Felix Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Yea. It helps though if you start with a healthy low kay bottom end, and take your time finding bits and pieces at the right price. Had a look at the website of the place madKE35coupe posted. They've got a Flow bench and engine dyno.... That is how they make all their power. Must build myself a Flow bench one day.
madKE35coupe Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 yeah they are a father and son team business. alot of people don't know about it, but warwick's morgan ark raceway is big on sprint cars and race bikes. i would guess thats where they get alot of their work from too. and the blokes that run morgan park are actually extending the drag strip and race track....someone mentioned something about getting the V8 supercars out there or something. not 100 percent sure if thats right, but would be pretty cool. and i noticed someone said something about reliability of these built motors? will have to ask when i get down there!
Evan G Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 for 4 grand i still think a 4age will be more realible and not have the nickname GRENADE
snot35 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 Yeah, build yourself a bench Felix, it isn't that hard! My problem is finding the time to use it :)
philbey Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 yeh flow bench would be killer, another project for the list. I got lots of my bits ready to roll on my motor too, but I did do the complete bottom end including oversize pistons. I could probably have brought my machining and parts in under a grand, but I just decided to do the lot. Plus getting chummy with the engine builder is always good too.
Teddy Posted February 17, 2010 Report Posted February 17, 2010 When you pop the bonnet, and you see a dirty, dusty old K motor with a set of jugs hidden under an also dirty KB Twin airfilter cover box - and you've just eaten any non-inducted v6 commodore, magna or camry on the market - it makes you proud that you own a *k* motor :)
