xmoht Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Jello everybody, thought I would finally introduce myself and my machine. It is a 1984 KE70. Plans include, flat front end, chrome bumpers, chrome trim tail lights, Datsun 280 side repeater indicators, redo interior in red, full respray in crisp white, and renovate my 4K to look shiny! We currently live in Tasmania, all over the state actually! It needs to get RWC for rego however. Can I get RWC while missing this bit? I will clean up the wires and such, but do you need that part of the console? Also, I'm putting in new carpet. Can I cut a hole in my carpet to just go around the geartstick rubber, without having the sheath? As it's new carpet it'll look very proper and not gaping like this hole here. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Hey mate, didn't realise you're in Tassie. Where about do you live? I'm also the Tas regional leader BTW. Yes you'll pass a RWC with no console, provided you tidy those wires up. Did you buy a Knox carpet? If I were you I'd be trying to find a console for it. That way it'll tiny things up even more, give you storage space or somewhere for a headunit, plus you won't need to worry about what the whole you cut for the shifter looks like. Quote

Hey Tassie regional leader ftw! I live in Launceston for Uni, but go all over the place really. Family in Hobart, Queenstown, Deloraine, so I drive about a bit. Got a console for it, but cos I'm doing a red interior I want to strip out as much as I can. Do as little painted plastic as possible, so if I could just have it as the dash painted red, it won't stand out as being painted so much. Taken out the sound system. If I was going to have one it'd have to be pretty decent set up, and I'd rather spend the money I could on that, on other things. So the only music in the car will be the engine, the road and the radio. Haven't picked up the carpet yet, going to go with Knox though I reckon. Can you recommend them? Is their cheaper loop pile decent enough quality? Also with the shifter, it's just going back to the simplicity thing really. Just want it to look as clean and spartan as possible without looking like a track car. Edited April 7, 2010 by xmoht Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Yeah Knox carpets are really good, I've had one in my mazda for like 7 years. Mine is the super plush though so I can't really comment on the loop pile. I'm sure the would be just as good as the plush's though. As you may be aware they come with no holes in them what so ever. With the above in mind RE shifter hole, with no console I would probably cut the hole in the carpet just smaller than the plate (with the 4x bolts in it) than holes the boot down. Then unbolt the plate, slip the carpet under it and bolt it back down. Obviously the plate might benefit with a brush with a wire brush and a coat of paint. Quote

Just cleaned it up then and tried it with the old carpet. It is going to look absolutely overrated with the new one! Is there going to be a Ke** cruise coming up soon? Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 Currently a thread about it in the tassie section Quote
Toy-Yoda[RL] Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 You'll rego that easy, I've gotten cars in much worse nick through the pits before, so I can't see you having any trouble at all as long as it's not venting fluids and the rubbers are all reasonable  Oh, and welcome to Tassie section of RC! xmoht Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Quick mock up of what the door panels will be. Got the fabric, just need to find some new board to make the panels out of! Going to paint the handle and roller black most likely and touch up the paint above the panel. Imagine, fresh painted white exterior and doors, red dash, sports steering wheel, red carpet and red seats. Not all in the same shade or material of course :( Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 Red carpet is going to be hard to keep clean. Black is a much better choice in my opinion. :( Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 9, 2010 Report Posted April 9, 2010 hey mate i used knox auto carpet and the budget stuff is sweet. I just grabbed some carpet underlay off cuts from a skip bin to pad it out. Plus I remade my door cards. Check out my rides thread in my signature, got a whole bit of how I made them. Only problem with knox carpets is the holes arn't cut out. Makes it a bit tricky. I laid my old carpet over the top and chalked the outlines of the holes. Still tricky to get the seat holes and such right. Took me about 4 hours to get it in right. Just gotta take your time. If you have helpers even better, I done it on my lonesome. Looking good so far bro, welcome and I'll keep an eye on this thread. Quote

xmoht Posted April 9, 2010 Author Report Posted April 9, 2010 Red carpet is going to be hard to keep clean. Black is a much better choice in my opinion. :) Haha I think most people would agree that black would look better aswell. But I'm for red and that's the main thing at the end of the day I think. Also I'm something of a Nazi when it comes to keeping my cars clean, so hopefully it shouldn't present a problem :( Quote
