Felix
Hey there guys, just wondering if anyone has ever used a slightly smaller oil filter on their 4k-c to increase oil pressure? If so what oil filter did you chuck in?? Thanks guys The oil filter size has nothing to do with increasing oil pressure. Oil pressure is determined by the bypass spring that is incorporated into the oil pump.
ke71-rolla
Is that the case with every oil filter?, i was told otherwise... :(
Trev
Felix is correct altho apparently it will allow a bit more flow. Edited April 8, 2010 by Trev
ke71-rolla
hmmm yeah the dude mentioned that putting a smaller one on would provide more flow throughout the engine, maybe he didnt mean to mention pressure??
Trev
The only difference between the z68, z386 & z158 is the B.P.V. (bypass valve) pressure which is the valve in the filter that opens up and bypasses filtration when the filter becomes blocked. EDIT: Damn keyboard buttons getting sticky and making me typo. parrot
FWIW, I recently purchased new genuine filters for my K motor and my 4AGE. The one for the (4)K motor also has a 4A listed on its application chart, but specifically states not 4AG. As with all genuine Toyota filters these days, the filters are tiny. Would most likely be because the 4ag BPV is 9psi and the 4k is 30psi.
