xmoht Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 So I am still thinking about different engine conversions. Want to keep it in the 1300cc range, but something a bit different. Dreamed about Hayabusa conversion, then woke up and noticed someone mentioned using a G13B. They said the biggest problem would be mating the gearbox. Does anyone have any ideas on getting around this? I love the idea of a powerful little 1300cc DOHC in my KE70! :bash: Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 i don't know of any personally. however it might be worth looking into westfields/clubmans etc. they have been powered by just about everything over the years. also look into overseas sierras and see if they came in a 2wd version somewhere? Felix Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Apparently Sierra boxes bolt straight up. They have a separate transfer case. The dizzy is the hardest part, though you can buy right angle adapters. I'd be looking at a torquier motor to start with. A ke70 would be a fair bit heavier than a GTI. Maybe a Vitara 1600 motor? coln72 Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 and then drop the GTI head on that :bash: Quote
xmoht Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 So both being G series and very similar I could put the DOHC G13B head on the G16B block? Quote
xmoht Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 So both being G series and very similar I could put the DOHC G13B head on the G16B block? Okay so I RTFM and obviously yes I can and should use the GTI gearbox aswell. So in theory the plan would be to get maybe a wrecking Swift GTI and pull apart aswell as try to find a G16B block to merge with it a la: http://www.redlinegti.com/forum/viewtopic....f=7&t=34636 Might be easier to just thoroughly work the G13B like this guy even: http://www.teamswift.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=40259 With either option though, I'd be using the Suzuki engine, gearbox, all those bits and pieces. Would I still be able to use other Toyota components like the TA22 differential and such, or would the Suzuki engine dramatically affect all the other component options? Or would it just be a matter of custom fitting everything to work with the Suzuki engine? Quote
Felix Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 Why would you need a GTI gearbox? Are you converting it to FWD? Probably easiest to go the proven route of a 4age... Quote
xmoht Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 Why would you need a GTI gearbox? Are you converting it to FWD? Probably easiest to go the proven route of a 4age... Yeah but every time you say 4AGE someone says CA18DET or SR20, then someone says Rotor, and so on and so forth. So it would be nice to do something a little different. I concede, I will probably end up just working the 4-K or going 4AGE, but it's nice to look at all the options available I think. Especially seeing as you can pick up Suzuki Swift's for next to nothing. I know, I know, you can get old FWD Corolla's with 4AGs in them for next to nothing aswell but still. :bash: Quote
curly Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 If your are going to all of the expence and time of doing a motor and box change make sure the outcome is what you expect, a 1.3L anything wont go good enough, 1.6L ? 1.6L turbo getting there, trying something different is a great idea, My next one is going to be a Suzuki Vitara 2.7L 4 cam 24 valve V6 and legal just to be different HMMMMM 2 turbos and 2 intercoolers Quote
