Hey everyone, i need to replace the rear shocks on my KE70 panelvan. the van is pretty low and wouldn't mind something with a bit more travel and something heavy duty.

 

Are there shocks off another model of car that are a good bolt in choice?

Pretty sure VH commodore wagon rear shocks fit in a sedan but not sure about panelvans.

I know with KE3/5X's the panel van shocks are actually shorter than sedan ones. I suggest you find out if its the same in XE7X's before you make any decisions. :jamie:

I have a pair of Pedders Comfort Gas in the rear of my KE30 P/Van (Part # 8056), they do the job nicely. These will also fit your KE70.

 

I see the leaf setup as been crucial in the rear of these because as you probably know they can get quite light in the rear. Have you played with the leafs at all?

 

I think we removed 1 leaf in the end, and changed the shocks and now the rear seems to "hug" the road much more over slight dips and rises in the road. Something as simple as trying different tyre pressures in the rear may also improve things.

 

How is the car behaving at the moment, and specifically how would you like to improve it?

Rollapv75: atm i have reset leaves +1 added to the pack. the rubber spring insulators are in pretty good nick too.

 

the shocks are standard. they are black in colour and very old. (can't see any part no: on them)

 

Ive started getting bad axle tramp when "driving" hard so i was going to change the shocks/shock rubbers first and go from there.

19914afc : i have heard of commodore wagon shocks and suzuki sierra shocks in sedans. i know the suzuki shocks are very short (only for really low sedans), so in theory if factory van shocks are abit lower than factory sedan shocks, then sierra shocks might be spot on for the van.. hrmm :jamie:

I'm planning on putting sierra shocks from my sedan into my panelvan. wont be for a few weeks though

Blues are full stroke. Pretty sure the shorts are green.

 

You couldn't use the Blues in a wags cause they'd be too long.

 

Good shocks...... if you use them at the correct height. Mind you mine are much better now I have some half decent shocks in the front. The old knackered wet legs were accentuating the problem of the rebound in the rear.

You can get rear TRD Blue short stroke Taz. Had a couple pairs myself :jamie:

destroyer: post up here once you fit the sierras to your van. i probably wont get new shocks for a month or so.

considering the leaf springs limit the droop of the shock, aslong as the shock isnt bottoming out why waste the money? If they are bottoming, measure the distance between the top and bottom shock mounts, take 3 or more inches off that measurement, the head to a parts place that has a shock catalog with open/closed shock measurements (from memory gabriel shocks catalog has this) and find a shock that fits. Then order that in a short stroke format.
