B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 I think if anything these are just a deterant to make you car "less appealing" to steal. Although welds would make it a hell of a lot more unappealing. Quote
ke70dave Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Chain link welded/attached to the shifter, locked to a chain attached to the hand brake. would work for both auto and manual. Car wouldnt be able to get into or out of gear unless the hanbrake is removed. which on an old ke corolla, isnt very difficult. what is it like 4 x 10mm bolts that hold the handbrake to the chassis? once you got those off i reckon you could have a pretty good go at getting that bracket thing off. or at least get it off enough to be able to get it into gear. though depends how keen they are for your car... Evan G Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 i think theives would go for stuff thats in my car not the car its self Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 2, 2010 Author Report Posted September 2, 2010 You're probably right Evan- I'm just trying to stop the guys who want to take it for a joyride or get home from the pub, rather than someone who really wants it as a car. I can't see anyone going to a lot of trouble for an ordinary KE70. (that's more the worry I have about the Altezza!) Locks that are bolted in are OK, it takes too long to lie under a car with a spanner while holding the top nut at the same time. These guys steal a car where they can be gone in a minute or two. (Gone in sixty seconds I suppose!) Slo, when my dad-in-law gave my wife her Standard 10 to drive I think it had a chain welded to the floor that you put around the gearlever and padlocked! Must have been good as no-one ever stole it! :hmm: He had cornered the market in 1950s Standards in Cape Town and gave one to each of his kids when they got their licence. The wife's one had a passenger's door that would fly open if you hit a bump in a tight right-hand corner... Quote
Tazrolla Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 the thing about these steering/gear locks is they are only a deterrent so that the thief sees it and goes nuh too much effort however if a thief really wanted the car then neither of these devices will stop them, at best it will only slow them down... for peace of mind get yaself a high end car alarm... even these wont stop the professional car thief but will stop your average local tosspot down the road from getting into your car... failing that lock a large dog in the car at night :hmm: that will stop just about any1  Quote
