---Pimp-My-Rolla--- Posted September 7, 2010 Report Posted September 7, 2010 Hey There, I have just purchased a sweet 2000 ultima and would love to know about some intake options that people know of, I am going to upgrade the intake and exhaust first then look at suspension and the list goes on. Would any one be able to explain the intake set up of this pic I found wih a 7afe with trumpets? It looks tuff as! Would this engine fit in my car with this set up or would the air filters be facing the back and all squashed up? As in what I would need to modify my current set up to get this under my hood. At the momment it is a stock 1.8 efi 7afe Cheers Quote
ae95- wagon kid Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 the engine could be a 2nd gen 4afe and it has 40mm webers or dellorto carbs it would be expensive to set up if you didnt have any experience with tuning etc and there isnt much point as the engine is stock and all that would happen is you would gain a few more horses but fuel economy would decline rapidly also it might need to be engineered because it may not pass emissions Its possible if you like the trumpets so much why don't you see if youi could fit some 20v throttle bodies and run trumpets you would need an aftermarket ecu correct me if I'm wrong rolla club members Harry Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Those are twin side-draught carbs, Dellortos I think, so.... You are right, there would be no room for air filters under your bonnet. You might get a few bhp, but you would probably use half as much fuel again. ..and if you want trumpets then indivdual throttle bodies fitted to your engine would be the way to do it. I'm not sure what manifold you would need, but if Harry is right then 20v is the way to go. You'll also get an amazing induction noise coming in through the dashboard!! :D Quote
beerhead Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 Most people end up with a 4AGE or a 4AGZE engine swap after looking into modding there FE. You're FWD so get a 20V halfcut and the conversion will be relatively easy. Open trumpets on a FWD motor is a bit of a no-no, you'll be sucking up air thats been heated up by the engine bay, it'll sound cool, but loose power. Quote

At the momment it is a stock 1.8 efi 7afe Cheers As stated above, carbies will be a big no-no if you want to keep it registered, they're a big leap backwards as far as emissions are concerned and won't really make any more power without serious tuning and appropriate cams etc. Plus you'd have no hope in hell of getting sidedraughts + airfilters to fit in the engine bay. Trumpets/ITBs are possible, but you'll have to bring over the ECU from the 20V (which may not work 100% as it is designed for a much higher revving engine) or go aftermarket, both of which will probably cost decent amounts of money. For a cheap, simple and easy approach, do this: 1 bit of pipe (with 1 bend and 1 hole), 1 pod filter. Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 also those carbs and the manifold are fitted at angles to each other, not good for airflow at all. Quote
---Pimp-My-Rolla--- Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 Hey thanks to all those who replied, Cheers Hiro Protagonist for the sweet shots of the induction pipe, love it! ;) No trumpets for now, :glare: Watch this space :jamie: Quote
