DJM1989 Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 hey guy's i was at a mates workshop today and we starting talking about the motor i am building. he gave it to me after it went bang! when i got it given to me it was a short motor and all i really no about it is a 7rib block and has oil squirters. he said to me when he bought the half cut it came out of it was a 20 valve with a supercharger straped to it. well long story short i was wondering if any of the toyota's cam out with this stock? DJM1989 Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 shit trev you were quick to jump on it thanks man. is there anyway of telling what motor it was by the engien number? Quote
Trev Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Not sure, is the engine apart? Get some pics of it up. Quote
DJM1989 Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 nah motor is all together sitting on the stand till i get some money to finish it off. it had 20valve pistons in it so one would think its a 20 valve bottom end. but being told it had a blower as well i don't no what to think? wich bottom end would be better to build a motor from? i am building it N/A Quote
Trev Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 The bottom end you have will be a good start, does it have the oil drain at the back of the block? Quote
DJM1989 Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 do you mean the drain pipe that gose from the head to the block in the small ports? if you are it hasn't got one. the motor is all together so i am not going to change anything. i just wanted to no what bottom end i have? Quote
Trev Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Well it is most likely just a 20v with a supercharger on it and nothing else, if the bottom end is fine then rebuild it as it will be good for an N/A build. Quote
Twinky Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 It would explain why the motor went bang, a supercharger hanging off a N/A engine. Quote
DJM1989 Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 the guy pulled of the 20v head and blower and put a 4afe head on it and ran it on carbies. the only reason it went bang was from e10 wich you could only get up north so it leaned out to much and cracked the head and bent the cam's. thats the reason i got it as a short motor. when it was on the dyno it made 230hp and would stop reving at 12k, had some big f#ck off cams in it. but don't no if i should of said that cause i can see it causeing all sorts of comments Quote

I can't say I have heard of a road going engine (apart from a motorbike engine) that can safely see an rpm like that. Seriously, it would cost a shitload of money to get an engine to that stage. Considering you can buy a used race engine for no less than 15k that safely revs in the 10krpm range. Maybe the engine blew because he reved it that high? 230hp sounds a bit low for 12krpm with a supercharger. I sense a whiff of untruths. Anyway, what are you planning to do with the engine? back to an N/A 20v or a forced induction setup?? What kind of budget do you have? Seeing that it has 20v pistons already in there it might pay to see what compression ratio they have to determine if they are suitable for either an N/A of F/I build. Quote

So is it a 20V head or a 4AFE head? Supercharged w/ or w/out carbies? Pictures would tell a thousand words, this thing sounds a little too good to be believed. Quote
DJM1989 Posted September 9, 2010 Author Report Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) this is what the motor was n/a 20v bottom end 4afc head big cams carbie was a falcon weber of the old 250xflows and sorry it didnt go bang just died because of shity e10 fule wich bundy only have up there. philbey Posted September 9, 2010 Report Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Shitty fuel.... shitty tune more like it, you can't blame the fuel if it's been tuned too lean LOL that's like blaming the gun, not the shooter. Edited September 9, 2010 by philbey Quote
DJM1989 Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 the car was tuned for 98 octane fule without ethanol. only reason e10 got use because you can not get fule from bundy without ethanol. what would you do push the car all the way back down brisbane. dosent worrie me i got a free motor out of it Quote
