scottiriver Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 heyy everyone i have a problem with the ke70 diff i went up a gutter and now the diff makes a noise everytime i drive that starts to get noisy at a bout 40kmph is it my diff or brakes or suspension? what do i do? cheers any help would be really good scotty Quote
philbey Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 is it a pulsating sort of noise? I'm guessing you've put a wheel out of balance and any loose bits are making noise when you hit the out of balance harmonic. Quote
ke70dave Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 yeah check your wheels first, if its as bad as you say you should be able to see the out of roundness of them by looking at them. alternatively jack up both rear wheels, and CAREFULLY start car, put it in gear and watch rear wheels. or for a safter option get them checked at a tyre shop.... the big question is, how hard did you hit it? how fast were you going? and which side did you hit? pending which side you may have bent the panhard rod...or worse the panhard rod body mount. altezzaclub Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Jack it up, hold a screwdriver on top of a brick with the blade a mm off the rim and turn the wheel by hand. Repeat for the inside of the rim, then the other side. If one is bent it may be the rim or you might have bent the hub on the end of the axle. Most likely just a bent rim or a wheel weight gone. Tyre shop can spin them on a balance machine and tell you straight away. Stock wheels or mags? Quote
scottiriver Posted November 11, 2010 Author Report Posted November 11, 2010 cheers for all that info guys here is a pic of my diff, is that rod supposed to be bent? and how do i fix this? all help will be good :) Quote
ke70dave Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 ahhh nope that rod is supposed to be straight! thats your panhard rod. keeps the diff in the middle of the car. you can see that your swaybar has moved in regards to your sway bar bush (the shiny part on sway bar) so i dar say your diff is waaayyyy over to the right at the moment. as for that wheel just get a new one, someone will have one for you to buy. if you were in brisbane you could have had one for free, ive got one sitting in the garden! altezzaclub Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 lol! Good smack!! Toss the rim, get another panhard rod and a very good 4wheel alignment! There might be other bent things in there, like mounts, but if an alignment comes up clean they won't matter. Quote
nz_83_dx Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 wow that would've been a BIG hit! Quote
scottiriver Posted November 11, 2010 Author Report Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) yeah ok how hard is it to put on another panhard rod? and would a wheel alignment fix the noise? also should i be driving it when this has happened? cheers Edited November 11, 2010 by scottiriver Quote
ke70dave Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 pan hard is just 1 bolts at each end. the noise, I'm unsure what that is, maybe you damaged the diff. a little difficult to diagnose noises over the interwebs. but first get a new panhard rod, actually if you are desperate, just pull that one off and bend it back into shape.did that on a mates car a few yrs back, worked a treat. once you get another wheel (put the spare on?) and get that panhard rod sorted. should be fine to drive it. but if that noise continues, youll have to look into it further. its not your tyre scrubbing on the right hand side? that panhard rod being bent will cause the right side wheel to get closer to the guard. Andy43 Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 With a big hit like that I'd be checking the axel is not bent. Chock the front wheels, release handbrake and put in netural. Jack up the car and give the wheel a good spin and make sure it spins true. Cheers Andy Quote
