Twincam16seca Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Does anyone in S.A know of the legallity on putting a beams 3sge into a ae71? I have decided to "upgrade" to the corona xt130/rt132 fornt suspension with the twin piston setup, slotted rotors+ebc green stuff and corona disc brake diff, not sure if this would suffice though? I want to do a conversion and I'm up against 4agze-no loom or ecu + all the gearbox etc is needed, or a beams 3sge with loom 6 speed but no ecu? I would rather go the beams as its NA/simpler! but its a larger capacity engine so was wondering on what i'd have to do to make it legal? This is the kind of set up i would like to end up with If anyone has a link to a site or something it would be appreciated. Thanks guys Quote

love ke70 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 ring a signatory engineer and get one to say they will approve it and what they want you to do to approve. then pay to have them put it in writing. then do it, and pay them more to engineer the car :) Quote
Twincam16seca Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 Thanks for that, so does anyone think the corona set up would be sufficient enough for a Beams 3sge, because they did come from a car with a 2L+ displacement, i know they had way less power though! Quote
GJM85 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) I would say the all wheel disc braking capacity of a corona would be sufficient for the relative engine upgrade. Although the output differs between the 2l engines, braking capacity is determined by vehicle weight. The heavier the car the harder it is to stop. Therefore the ae71's curb weight would be less than that of a corona and therefore a sufficient brake enhancement for the vehicle. Edited December 27, 2010 by GJM85 Quote
ke70dave Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 none of the oppinions on this forum count, as they are not signatory engineers. the only oppinion that counts is that of the engineer that is going to actually sign it off. so if you read my words carefully, that means even other signatory engineers that ARENT going to be signing off YOUR car, their oppinions don't count either. ONLY the signatory engineer's oppinion counts that will be doing YOUR car. Quote
Twincam16seca Posted December 28, 2010 Author Report Posted December 28, 2010 Thaks guys, for usefull info. Thats along the lines of what i was thinking GJM85. SO i guess I'l have to Talk To An Engineer. :blinks: Quote
philbey Posted January 11, 2011 Report Posted January 11, 2011 Even better. here is the LIST of the engineers. BUT before you do that... Contact the DTEI at regency park (number in the bottom right corner) and speak to them about the conversion They will send you some paperwork that you fill out, you need to put comprehensive information on what car you are modifying and what engine you're fitting, they will then provide you with feedback on what items you need to upgrade. Many of these are likely to need an engineering report. SA engineering is not the same as some of the other states. Quote
