cinky Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 has any one here picked an auto over a manual? general opinion ive gotten is autos Are better suited to motors with more torque and no so much to our beloved 4 babgers. was thinking a 2 or 3 speed. or any thing that may be suggested. my current engine is a 4age bp 16v ( plus crazzy idea of 7agte) Quote
ae824ate Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Ive always hated auto's, i don't trust them, and i like to drive the car manually how i want. Unless they are pourpose built to take a flogging. Quote
Trev Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 Mr's 82 seca is a bigport auto (conversion into csx), although it isn't a fighter jet off the line it does get up an go pretty well and does 100k's in 1st which gives you a bit of pulling power next to those commo's or wrex's, give it a little bit more off the line torque and it will scream. Evan G Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 100 clicks in 1st? what in the f@$k! :o Quote
rian Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I think a manual would be much more fun Quote
Trev Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) 100 clicks in 1st? what in the f@$k! :o Joys of having 8000rpm to play with. (old vid and has improved since then as it was when I first put the engine in) Edited December 27, 2010 by Trev Quote
cinky Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 ive been driving manuals since i was 7 years old. and lately the new family chariots have been auto and was thinking may be it would work in the rolla as id be chasing straight line speed mostly Quote
Des Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 I have a ke11 with a 2 speed auto and it does 55mph in 1st and 95mph in 2nd. Very slow off the mark and not ok at speed. Its pathetic. Automatics and K motors = poo Quote
cinky Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 is that a standard 2 speed? what is it known as? and are you really talking mph or like my dad and think they are the same thing Quote
jono1986 Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 When I converted my e35 from a 3spd auto to a 4spd auto it was a huge improvement in every respect, as in better power transmission between the engine and wheels, better fuel economy, little complicated but actually being able to drive the car properly, better when cold and so on. The only time I've ever wanted a automatic was after 12 hour shifts cause I couldn't be stuffed changing gears at every traffic light. Quote
Trev Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 is that a standard 2 speed? what is it known as? and are you really talking mph or like my dad and think they are the same thing Standard 2 speed, Toyoglide as it is known as, yes 55MPH or 88km/h. Quote
cinky Posted December 27, 2010 Author Report Posted December 27, 2010 jono1986 what was the power like off the mark sluggish or responsive. what rev range did u use for a hard take off (if you drove it that way) which tranny was it? trev when you are saying it pathetic do you think it was because of the motor or tranny or combination a of both? what do think would have made it better? sorry about all the nitty gritty questions Quote
Evan G Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 on the 3 speed. 1st is normally around 60kph and 2nd i think was 90kph? i wouldnt mind a trimatic with a 3:89 diff Quote
Trev Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 trev when you are saying it pathetic do you think it was because of the motor or tranny or combination a of both? what do think would have made it better? A supercharger or the torque from a 7A, at the time of the video I had taller then standard tyres so it took off slower then it does now. Quote
cinky Posted December 28, 2010 Author Report Posted December 28, 2010 that sounds promising as I'm thinking of doing a 7 age or agte just depends how silly i want to go Quote
