Matt-e30 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Hey guys, today the heat must of really affected my brain an got me thinking about aircon... Something not really common in older rollas now I came across an idea that people in the states etc have been doing being with an ice box (mini esky) where they cut out the lid and install computer fans into the lid and connect them to a ciggie lighter to run 12v dc fill the esky with ice a woolah instand air con so my real question is has anybody tried this method and does it actually work I like the idea of it as it's easily removed but does anybody see any problems I'm possibly overlooking ? Input greatly appreciated... Good or bad or has the heat in nsw at the moment sent me crazy?.... Quote
Matt-e30 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Topic - aircon can anyone change this as I can't work it out on the iPhone :( Quote
cinky Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 well heres my theory in point form: ice will melt leaving only water then be coming hot water creating humidity you could use a mini fridge but that will use ur 12v supply so you would be stopping at every sevo to get more ice on oz day i bout 5 bags of ice to put in the spa to use as on oversized esky it was completely melted with in 2 hours i then turned on the spa and added bubble bath i then created a 2 metre bubble statue of my self Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 You could prob buy a 12v aircon unit from a caravan place. http://www.swampy.net/auto-air-conditioner.html Quote
philbey Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Buy a vintage swamp cooler, it's a bit anachronous on a ke30 but will do the trick. Quote
Trev Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Make an inline dry ice & water holder from the fan so all you have to do is full up the holder and the inner core will supply the cold to cool the air, just don't put dry ice in your ducts as you may get co2 poisoning. Quote
Matt-e30 Posted February 1, 2011 Author Report Posted February 1, 2011 Where would one find one of those philbey? Quote
philbey Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Hit up Chobis, he may have a lead on a swampy. Otherwise, there are a few repro ones out there such as this one http://www.classicaire.com/ProductProfile.htm Quote
wanzl Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 :laff: replys are great lol not trying to be rude bud........ just buy an aircon then u got more room for passangers and u know its gona work Quote
Matt-e30 Posted February 2, 2011 Author Report Posted February 2, 2011 Yes but has anybody installed aircon into a ke10 / 11 whilst still maintaining factory appearance.. I'm really not too fused about aircon really just a bit of an idea.. Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 I'm in the process of putting in factory AC into my KE15 they did have them as an option stock. They used the RT40 AC compressor on the engine if you wanna find one that fits. So many universal under dash 60's looking uniots out there for a KE1X that can fit. Cameron Quote
