Raven Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Check your distributor cap for corrosion where the leads plug in and also inside the cap. Quote
Banjo Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Hi Sam, Before you waste a lot of time on checking the engine, remove all the spark plugs and do a compression test on each cylinder, to check you haven't got a blown head gasket, burnt exhaust valve, or posibbly broken rings. If they are all OK, then you can start looking at other areas. Let us know what you find ! Banjo Quote
sam- Posted February 5, 2011 Author Report Posted February 5, 2011 just had a look inside the cap lost of white build up do i just sand it off? and i don't have acess to a compression tester but i will try get one thank you Quote
ke70dave Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 yeah get some sand paper onto the contacts. you should really get a new cap, but you might be able to get away with it. depends how bad it looks once you clean it all up. Quote
philbey Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 new cap will set you back all of about 10 bucks, just get a new cap, rotor and points. Forget messing around with an old one. Quote
altezzaclub Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 ..and if you're under 30 buy a compression guage, you will use it all your life. Quote
sam- Posted February 5, 2011 Author Report Posted February 5, 2011 ..and if you're under 30 buy a compression guage, you will use it all your life. good idea concidering I'm only 18 and iv needed one plently of times :P haha Quote
Raven Posted February 6, 2011 Report Posted February 6, 2011 Use a flat blade screwdriver to scrape the white build-up off the posts inside the cap. Throw it back on and see if it runs, if it does, you know your cap needs replacing. I'd do that before buying anything anyway. Quote
