October 29, 200521 yr comment_79920 Hey all, Just doing a few more bits and peices to P:36, anbd have a few questions. Firstly, the "secondries" don't open on the carby. The reason is that the mechanicals on the side of the carby don't quite line up. I had a bit of a think and a fiddle with them, and there is no real easy way to make them line up either. So, can I have the secondry butterfly open all the time?? Will this hamper the cars performance?? I believe that the secondry jet is working (tho I couldn't see any fuel actually squirt into the secondry), but there was a puff of vapour from the secondry. Secondly, there is a line runs from the inlet manifold to the brake booster/master cyl. It has a PC Valve (I think) in the line. Which way is the 'flow' of the valve meant to go?? When OPEN, is it flowing to the inlet, or away?? And there is a sensor-type-thingie on the Brake line 'splitter' (on the firewall, where the brake lines separate) It has a green connector on it... Whats it for, as my KE30 2dr doesn't have it. Report
October 29, 200521 yr comment_79936 None of my aisan carbies actually squirted fuel into the secondary choke.........it only squirted fuel into the primary. The seconday is feed fuel through seconday venturi. Thats what mine used to do anyway. In the secondary venturi, there is a plate that is normally closed and only opens under up under load/vacuum. The plate is weighted.........make sure your not confusing the butterfly with this plate. Report
October 30, 200521 yr comment_80013 I have heard of people making double pumper Aisan carbys. don't know how to do it but. The flow of air will be away from the vac booster. Report
October 30, 200521 yr comment_80015 i wouldnt have the secondaries open all the time, you'll just use heaps of fuel. ditto for making the carb a double pumper. i'm talking like more than 20L/100km the pcv valve is the rearmost post on the rocker cover. it allows the flow of crankcase vapor FROM the engine TO the inlet manifold under high vacuum conditions. under low vacuum (wide open throttle) the valve closes so the engin gets cleaner air when it needs it connector is probably brake fluid sensor, perhaps that part is from a ke55, they have a light for that in the dash. ke 30 doesn't. my panelvan is the other way round, ke30 brakes and loom, ke55 dash, the brake fluid light stays on all the time :jamie: Report
October 30, 200521 yr Author comment_80030 Ok, the flap in the carby does have a weight on it... And if it does open with vacuum, that expains why it wouldn't open when the motor was switched off!! :jamie: The PCV on the rocker cover is not my issue. I pulled that out and cleaned it up, and its spot on.. **EDIT** - Pic won't upload... Check out the URL How does it work?? I noticed you can blow thru it one way, but not the other, so atleast its operational. But which way is the 'flow' meant to go?? The direction of the arrow CLOSES the valve when pressure is applied. Is that correct, or is it meant to be the other way?? ;) Edited October 30, 200521 yr by st.nick Report
October 30, 200521 yr comment_80036 that's the one way valve for the brake booster. logically, you're sposed to present vacuum to the brake booster, hence it doesn't need to be pressurised, hence the valve is positioned correctly Report

It was back-to-front. That might explain why the brakes were a bit shit on the 1st drive. Report
October 30, 200521 yr comment_80141 it would have been like trying to stop in a ke20, unboosted brakes :jamie: Report
October 31, 200521 yr comment_80416 the brake thingy on the firewall is a safety thingy if you lose pressure in a front or rear wheel (i.e. leak) it closes that circuit to prevent total fluid loss the wire should go to your brake dash light telling you you have a problem the valve is a one way vacuum valve designed to keep vacuum in the booster Report
January 2, 200620 yr comment_93419 sorry to bring up a old post, but this PC valve pipe thingy that goes to the brake thingy, anyone got a pic of it attached to car?, just so i know what it is, did the KE30 have one?, and would it explaing weak brakes? Report
January 15, 200620 yr comment_96070 likely it would explain weak brakes if u don't have the vaccuum pipe attached to the brake booster. i could take a picture on the 70, but people with a 30 would prob be more handy its just a thick vaccuum hose that goes from the intake area along the firewall to the brake booster Report
January 15, 200620 yr comment_96083 yeah, i see it now, will get around to pulling it off and checking, Report
