There shouldn't be oil on the clutch plate at all... The rear seal leaks onto the back of the flywheel and that sprays the oil outwards onto the bellhousing.

You'll only find out when you strip it, but a can of Brakleen and some #100 sandpaper does a good job of cleaning them up.

i would have through t that any oil on the flywheel will get burnt off pretty quick with a few take offs (once you fix the oil leak source)

but yeah you can buy clutch plates on their own, my mate ordered one through super cheap auto for his rx7, just have to have the right part number. and say "order me this from exedy, part number *blah*"

Have you correctly adjusted your clutch cable? if you put in a new pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing, but your cable adjustment is still set for the old worn stuff, then you will be preloading the thrust bearing on the pressure plate.

Check adjustment first. Should have 10mm of freeplay on the pedal.

yep i've adjusted the cable, the clutch has been installed the correct way around. i've done a bunch of clutches before, all with success. this is the first one i've had issues with. the only other thing i can think of, is if the front seal of the k50 is leaking ?

altezzaclub, a leaky rear main does spraying oil around the bellhousing, which is a pretty sure fire way of contaminating the clutch plate. but as you say, i wont know til i strip it so ill pull it out tomorrow night after work and have a look.

cheers for the link 19914afc, ill give them a call tomorrow and see if they can help me out.

Got mine from Bursons - $50 including freight.

Clutch plate part # R7098W

Went to Autobarn first off for the plate since the complete unit is Exedy. Got the part number and the price of $50 before freight, but the guy found out Exedy don't do replacement clutch plates....

I'd go the CI over the Exedy. So much firmer under the foot.

got a day off work today so pulled it off this morning. my new clutch is most definately rooted.

the rear main looks to be leaking, which is no real drama however i'm not sure if its leaking from the sump & input shaft seal as well. bit of a dilemma i guess.
