2011 Japanese Classic Car Show,

BIGMIKESOCAL

Recommended Posts

This is an in car camera of me driving in my 1973 TE-27 Levin that has a full bridgeport engine in it. This was the 7th JCCS held yearly at Long Beach California. There were close to 400 pre 1975 Japanese cars in attendance and about 200 more in the parking lot that did not make the registration deadline.

Firstly wow at 9:20. 2000gt??

This sounds ace brapping away.

Can you post up some more specs on the car? Like where did you get that super sexy looking single leaf setup? Is it progressive rate? How is the handling with it??

Sorry about the questions its just that I've been looking at doing a single leaf(progressive rate) setup in my KE-11. A mate has done a progressive rate setup in his datsun fairlady roadster and it improved handling out of sight.

Stu,

That is a fully restored 2000GT! There were other notable cars at the show. The single leaf is a progressive rate setup, It works superb! Weighs only 10lbs! I cannot recall where I bought the springs, I just bought parts a little bit at a time and once I got everything, I started working on the car. Here is the specs of my car:

Big Mike Muniz 1973 Toyota TE-27

1973 TE-27 shipped from Japan back in 1988. The car was right hand drive at that time and had the original 2TG Engine, The vehicle was then converted to left hand drive and used several components from a 1974 TE-27 donor car to pass U.S. safety standards to comply with California registration during that time. The 73' bumpers were later re-installed, but I kept it left hand drive for Road Racing conditions (easier to shift gears with my right hand). Vehicle weight is 1,920lbs with driver/owner. The car has had several different engine transmission combos over the years, the stock 2TG was full race modified, then swapped for a turbo'd 3TC, a 4AGE, 20 valver, 3TGTE, 3SGTE, then switched over to a blow-through turbo/monster ported 13B (which bumped me up a race class against V8's and also was just spinning the tires), Then switched to the 12A which is perfect power to weight ratio.

Engine & Transmission:

* Dynoed at 264hp to the wheels...approx 300hp to the flywheel.

* Mazda 12A full Bridgeport rotary engine that came out of the "Fastest West Coast 1/4 mile all motor 12A RX2".

Wow Mike that is a massive list of bits and pieces.

Thanks for the info. The early 3 series Volvo had a single leaf setup(which I'm having trouble finding) and is a bit long as it is. Which is why I just had to ask about your setup. I saved the photo of the setup and I'll take it to a spring manufacturer and see what they can do. It's a bit easier if I can show them what I mean.

I do really like your 27. I've seen a bit of it on YouTube before. I can only imagine what a weapon it would have been with the 13bt In a car that weight. A mate has a series 2 rx7 with a bridgported turbo 13b with about 410rwhp and that thing is lethal.

Wow I may have to venture over to the states and check out some classic jap shows. Is there a big classic jap scene in the states?

I'm not sure how big the classic Japanese scene is in the other states, But here in California it is HUGE! The main shows are "Toyotafest", "Japanese Classic Car Show", "Sevenstock"

Here is my other TE27. The Orange car "L'L MANGO" is my daily driver, it's driven about 800-1,000 miles per week. It has been featured in the UK based magazine called Retro Cars modified classics (aug 2012 issue..it had side stripes back then). I also have a Green Trueno Sprinter that is my pride and joy! Restored to factory specifications. The only thing that is non factory is the TRD/TOSCO wheels (I will post photos of it on another day). Some of my friends call me "Mr TE27" since I have had about 25 of these cars in the span of about 20 years. Hope you guys like them.

Okay it's that time of year again here in Southern California! It's time for this years Toyotafest! I'm not entering any of my cars this year. I have been helping out a buddy of mine (who is also a co-worker) in doing a complete redo of his 82 Corolla. Paint is Mercedes-Benz silver (used up a gallon of it), Recaro seats, Carbon Fiber center console, Real Hayashi wheels, Legally swapped and tagged 4AGE motor (with C.A.R.B sticker), AMG Alcantara headliner and rear hat shelf (since I'm an AMG tech and Luis and I both turn wrenches for Mercedes-Benz), Diamond pattern rear inner wheel well covers, fully recarpeted interior, JDM bumpers, TOMS steering wheel, TRD shift knob, re-webbed factory seat belts, textured dash upper panel,Toda timing belt, Greedy oil filter relocation kit ,Iridium plugs, TRD spark plug, TRD engine support, Injen cold air intake, TRD thermostat, TRD radiator cap, KOYO racing radiator, TRD oil filter, Permacool16" electric fan, Permacool thermostat control, Goodridge Stainless Steel brake lines , Front strut bar, Tein camber plates, T3 custom strut casing, T3 RCA, TRD 8kg front spring, TRD 6kg rear spring, Tokico HTS shocks, T3 lateral bar, Prothane bushing kit, KOYO wheel bearings, Cusco rear bar, Auto meter gauges, Mitsuba horn, Battery relocation kit, SS battery box,AE86 Kouki gauge cluster conversion, Zenki LSD rearend, JDM front head light conversion, Pioneer sound system, GTS gas tank, etc, etc. The goal was to have a clean looking car and not stepping away to far from it's stock appearance. Believe it or not, this car is serving as his daily driver while he is rebuilding the motor of his SR5 Toyota Truck....

Since he is not a member of this message board He asked if I could post his ride...So here it is...
