Isuzu1600 Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 Gday guys/gals, My old man is a bit of a Toyota Enthusiast. He has had a few ke20's as road and rally cars, he has had one sitting in the back yard under a Tarp for yonks [Rally/hill climb, 2lt] and I'm worried that the shell wont be any good if we don't get stuck into it soon, he has a very hectic work schedule so i'd like to do a bit for him. If the shell has gone to far, how much would it set me back to get him another in relatively good shape??? He's provided me with so much and hasnt had much time to indulge in his own hobbies i really want this project to happen for him in the near future. [That and my gemmy has taken up room in his shed for the last 5 yrs      ] I'm in Newcastle, NSW for reference. Thank you in advance. PS. Does anyone on the forum reproduce the Japanese style guard flares???? Quote

I had a quick look over it today and being a rally car, its not too bad in shape. Thank you, i wish i had the forethought to finish it for him 2-3 years ago. I ll post some pics when its in the shed and ready to be worked on. Quote

ke70dave Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 to be honest your questions are pretty much impossible for us to answer.... Get some pics up (more for my interests sake!) its a ~30yr old car it could be rusted to all getout, or it might be in pretty good working order. as for a new shell, just jump into the for sale section, i think there are a few up forsale now. and you can either do all the work yourself for minimum cost, or get someone to do everything for maximum cost. Isuzu1600 Posted October 10, 2011 Author Report Posted October 10, 2011 Thanks again Parrot. to be honest your questions are pretty much impossible for us to answer.... My question was if i needed a new shell how much would one cost on average, i considered it to be straight forward. Sorry for that. I'll try and get some pics to keep you curiosity peaked. Thank you. silverra23 Posted October 12, 2011 Report Posted October 12, 2011 How much for a shell is a bit like how long is the piece of string A really straight non-rusty one might cost you a couple of grand or more, and a rusty one that needs work might be $200 You don't often see just shells appear, its normally whole cars\ Sounds like a good project.. if you start it start a members rides thread so we can see progress. te27 Posted October 13, 2011 Report Posted October 13, 2011 I have a bare ke20 shell , not rolling though , but we could lift it onto a trailer , I'm in melb, roof has creases in it other wise car is straight as Quote

Thanks for the kind words. But being in Newcastle NSW its a bit of a drive, petrol and other expenses would make the whole job redundant. Thank you though. parrot Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Seriously, they are all like that. Only option is to get welding on the holes, and try and stop progression of any surface rust. All those locations are typical. Quote
Redwarf Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 The other place I'd look is on the left chassis rail as it goes under the firewall. They tend to rot there quite badly. If it's not gone too badly, grab it. :) Quote
carbonboy Posted October 21, 2011 Report Posted October 21, 2011 Considering its age & being a rally car at some stage of its life, it seems to be in pretty good shape. Some of those rusty sections may have to be cut out & new metal welded in, if you're lucky you can get away with rust treatment. I've seen KE70's in worse condition! :laff: P.S - Good on you for doing a project for your ol' man. I'd like to do one for mine but I figure doing an FJ Holden would mean he's in a walking frame before I could finish it ... Quote

Isuzu1600 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Report Posted April 8, 2013 Hey Guys, I plan to move the car into the shed this weekend somehow [brakes are well and truly seized] going to strip, sand blast and start gather bits to replace rust holes. After some deliberating i think a 4age swap is in our best interests. Keep you posted. Again thanks for everyone's input. Quote
