thx for the reply..

the K doesn't have a diesel version, what I am going to use is the 2L diesel engine..

hilux use that engine, some say the 3K, 5K, 7K, 7K-E and the 2L (I forgot it's 2L-T or something maybe) are all have a same mounting. When I see from wikipedia the Toyota Revo(India) / Toyota Kijang(Indonesia) use that all engine, same body & chassis but from generation to generation they use the K engine going bigger & bigger.

is it possible to get an EFI 5K??? it is not a bad idea but I think we can't do that.

It was design for 1.8l not 1.5l, I think it will become oversupply.

out of topic, is this a mirror for KE30??

i think you are getting way to obsessed wtih fuel economy.......

you can't expect less than 7L/100km from a 20yr+ old engine.

keep your foot off the loud pedal and any engine will be fuel efficient.

FR vs FF drivetrain losses.....bugger all difference. FF they have a gearbox and differential as well you know.

FF higher compresion ratio? what?

forget diesel, too slow, and sound bloody aweful.

7k EFI is a good choice.

yes indeed, because I want to find a car that runs better in fuel efficiency then my ninth generation corolla (AE120), it gives me 9L/100km for crazy traffic, 7L/100km when it was not very crowded.

I bought a daihatsu mira, 850cc, not good, very low power & the fuel consumption its still same with my AE120. so I sold it

Toyota Yaris & Honda Jazz, yes they had a better fuel consumption but the difference is not much, really close, the draw back is I musn't drive it fast, and the power absolutely below my 1.8L AE120. In my AE120 I can drive it faster & still can get 7L/100km. Again I sold it both.

I think, nothing will have an extreme good fuel consumption even its smaller then 1L engine. (don't compare it to hybrid or hydrogen or something like that)

so I think about to have an old car, with a new engine technology so it will runs economically (I tought, due to its light weight).

because I love my AE120 very much, I don't want to use it daily.

My family always bought a corolla since 1973. That's why I really interested to buy a KE20 (my family first corolla), and I gonna make it to be a daily use car, classic & special.

unfortunately none of my friends have KE20, what I got is KE30.

Toyota never made a 5K-E (as far as I know), but the 7K-E EFI Kit does work on 4Ks and 5Ks. People on here have done the conversion before, and they have worked. It also gives more power when it's all tuned properly. :)

I seriously do not see the point in having a Diesel in a KExx Corolla. By time you get the engine and do all the conversion, you'd have more money buying Petrol with what you have now than if you did a Diesel Conversion. But if I had to go for one, I'd get a Turbo Diesel out of the 2008-2010 Hiace.

A friend I do a lot of work with owns an early 90s Landcruise with the smaller diesel engine, I think its a 3L. He drives long disatnces every week (works in a mine 4hrs away) and drives at 90kph to minimize fuel usage. It still uses 9 to 10L/100km, which is terrible!

I though diesels were cheap to run, although I've never owned one, but this shows otherwise. It also has pathetic power up hills of course!

I just know the 4K had a EFI version so maybe I thought the 5K will have one.

tuned properly?? is it use a stock ECU or an universal one???

how about the sensor & everything??

doesn't need modification??

hmm, I think that is because it is a land cruiser, build for offroad stuff, noone offroad car is good in fuel efficiency.

maybe if it is a hilux use a same engine, different gearbox I thought it will be more economical.

from what I know, every car that have a diesel engine version, the diesel runs better in fuel efficiency.

like a merc C-class, the toyota hilux, etc.

Sounds like you're getting way too anal about fuel ecconomy

From what you said earlier from the fuel consumption of your 4k just sounds as though it isn't running right..

Put some carby cleaner in it, new fuel filter, plugs, points, timing etc, check all your tire pressures and avoid carrying more weight than you need to and then see how it goes.

My friends ke70 which is auto and bog stock, gets very similar mileage etc to his mums getz..

*Edit, Plus, if you put a cheap to run underpowered engine in it, it's going to struggle and run under strain and you'll probabily end up with the exact same thing you have now just a lot more gutless

"too anal" :laff: :laff: so funny

I do what u say every 2 month, just last week I even fully disassemble the carb, clean it & flush it & everything else by my self, but it doesn't have any effect.

in my country that use that car is also have the same fuel consumption as me..

today, I go to ask some expert. about this engine swapping, they say they don't recommend to use the 2L engine, because the quality is rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!

so many have a case, that they have some crack on the engine block, luckily I saw one of the "victim" that has that problem.

but I forgot to take some picture of it.

they also say to use 7K engine is more harder than to use 5K engine, first 7K engine is bigger even is not really big, need more modification.

they say if I want to use a 5K with 7K EFI kit, they say I need a universal ECU due to different stroke.

so now, just waiting for someone that I know want to sell his uni ECU.

hi

I came across this topic while doing some research for engine options in my KE50.

I bought a KE50 w/o motor and tranny some months back. I also have a 5a-fe lying around, buying it by mistake for my daily 1998 Starlet(mistaking it for a 5E-fe).

After putting the engine for sale and found no buyers, I am toying with the idea of putting it into my KE50. I know it needs(obviously) a rwd tranny. I saw this

and can't recognize it unfortunately. If its a T50, will it bolt straight on the 5a-fe?

also like the idea of swapping the plenum for bike carbs
