what is wrong with the silver bumpers on the orange ke30? that is the retrotech look, don't you guys ever read street machine?

i guess these days the bling hotwheels tuner look is in...

my favourite corolla:

not sure how fast it is now, but it ran a 6.42@108 in the 1/8 mile in may 2005. equates to a flat 10 over the 1/4. 3tc, turbo, webers and nitrous. not bad for old technology.

1. They look shite. Cheap and Nasty.

2. Nope. Its full of crap these days. (in my opinion) The retro look just doesnt do it for me.

3. The wheels were never mentioned. Some people just like chrome bumpers still. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Normally you would be the first person complaining that "its not old school".

LOL,

Normally you would be the first person complaining that "its not old school".

the bumpers help tie the new and old together. if it had chrome wheels then chrome bumpers. regardless, the guy pulled off the look quite well, blending old and new. it is much better than a lot of other attempts i have seen, as it is not over the top as the current trend seems to be.

now i wouldn't rate that ke30 way up high in my list of favourite cars or anything. ie, i prefer the look of the drag ke30 2 door that is for sale on ebay (even without the driveline)...simple standard looking clean body work, nice era specific wheels. nothing over the top, as all the flashy crap doesn't aid performance or really add value to your car.

i'd rather a car that goes fast, rather than one that looks fast. :S

street machine is a heap of garbage these days. it's all just elite trailer queen shit that is built to a level which is so unrealistic, it's a pathetic and shameful way to ruin a motor vehicle

that's fine if that's what you're into, but it's called STREET machine, i want to see cars that people can drive on the STREET

i questioned seddo about this and he basically told me it's like this because elite cars make money and that's all he cares about and i could shove my opinion up my ass. and that was the last issue i ever bought

f@$k geoff seddon and f@$k street machine

(ps: 6.4 down the 1/8th is a pessimistic flat 10, i reckon that thing could break into high 9s with little to no effort. that's f@$king awesome for a ke15)

never have truer words been spoken....if you don't drive it, you shouldn't have it

yes i agree Jamie, street machine isn't like it once was. it should be street driven to qualify.

the look of the ke30 in question is more late 90's - early noughties when the retrotech look really took off. not current.

i have heaps, ie boxes and boxes of car mags (fast 4s, hot 4's, street machine, etc.) from the early 90's through to around 2000 or so when i stopped buying/collecting them. they were all much better when they concentrated on the older cars.

i quite like the retrotech look as well. really, any look is good as long as it's pulled off well and as a complete package. i would do flat silver grille and bumpers and handles on a corolla, i think it would be quite nice. to complete the look you'd shave the gutter channels and maybe the bonnet vents and quarter grilles too, maybe not them cos they kinda define the rear end. perhaps even shave the doorhandles and use harley-style billet mirrors attached to the pillars. smooth the whole car off, but don't ruin the bodylines. frenching the bumpers would look awesome in this style. i have been hanging out with minitruckers too long :S

i've scored two peoples' collections of old hot 4s and fast fours and street machines and stuff like that. back in the day when a weber and cam, hotwires, and a pastel paintjob made your gemini a "showcar" ;) don't forget the white-writing bridgestone eager tyres or monster tacho! hahaha good times, good times

i love reading about cars back then, everything was old skool and full of innovative new ideas, not just "body kit from here, engine from here, intercooler from here, bolt together. turbo optional"

a few cars that stick out in my mind are:

- eric bana's XB (?) coupe, with the cobra stripes, which still gets driven and competes in targa tas i think!

- a neat green (or yellow?) escort with a mild efi pinto engine. it only made 120-odd horsepower, but it was just a nice clean well-presented car

- lots of corollas, like a dude here in alstonville's ke55 with 5k, the maroon ke20 with the really dark windows, and michelle's old scarlet

dudes in the philipines have been shaving corollas for many years. it's wierd when you don't know, you look at them and you're like "i know it's a ke30, but there's something just... different :S"

that's a nice little eleven, not sure if i'm a fan of the big gauge thing on the dash (they already have bad enough visibility) but the rest is nice and tidy. it's complete and it's got a cool engine and, yeah i like it ;)

Interior doesn't matter for me....mines stripped lol, but yeah I'm not really fussed by it. AS long as it's kinda tidy. But for a totally registered and hardly ever goes to the track car, it's so damn sweet! Now where's yours? You should have a ke25 running 6sec quartermiles with all that knowledge hahaha. :S

i actually had a cool ke25, it became one with a tree, now i have parts in a garage. ah well, i'll build something else again one day

interior is important to me, for a car i drive every day. i now have a bog stock ae92 with nice seats and aircon and quietness and tints and all that stuff, because i am soft :S if i built a race corolla again now, it would have no interior at all

What happened to you SJ...you used to be cool :( driving a stock ae92 :) :D haha. Meh, if it weighs something you can be sure I'm taking it off ;) haha. Are you going to build another corolla up? And is it just me or has there been a recent (Spelling? rescent or recent?) increase in show car corollas? I keep seeing a fare few round. And kangaroosas car is actually the nicest corolla I've seen in REAL life lol. Not just on the net, that thing is shpick and shpan. And sounds and appears to go hard. Mmmmm.

BAH Stop living in the past :)

I do agree on one point, I fail to see the point in having this amazing car in your garage that you can't drive "Hey everyone, come over to my house and check out my car, I can't bring it out of the garage though"

But if they build an elite quality show car, they deserve to have it in a magazine, just because it's not what you like, doesn't mean it's not what other people like.

Street Machine has taken a different direction, one that they believe is needed to keep up with current trends, and the best way to show that you don't like it, is to stop buying. All the whinging in the world isn't going to make them change.

People wrote in and whinged and complained about Darryl McBeths Magna being in the magazine, but I don't see what the problem was, that car is an amazing piece of engineering, and it is a cool car, I can appreciate that, and I HATE magna's.

i know, i know, i have gone to the dark side, i suck! :) lol, nah the ae92 is just a comfy drive car while i have nothing else, kinda having a break from cars for a while so i can sort out some other stuff. long story

i actually have a ke36 panelvan down at a panelbeaters, but he's a lazy old bloke and i don't want to spend the money so it's just sitting there :( i'd like to do that up like a lowered shaved custom rat-rod, and i'd also like a nice well-handling corolla as well, with decent bloody brakes for a change! maybe i can come up with an idea that incorporates both. i'd also really like a minitruck, they look SO cool but they handle like absolute crap. maybe i'll do the corolla first, then work towards a truck. i dunno, see what happens after i've paid the ae92 off :D

But if they build an elite quality show car, they deserve to have it in a magazine, just because it's not what you like, doesn't mean it's not what other people like.

agreed. and when i want to see unrealistically built cars which are totally impractical to drive on even a monthly basis, i will buy autosalon magazine

when it want to read about cars that people like me have built to drive on the STREET, i will buy magazines like that, i thought the title STREET MACHINE was the embodiment of that, but it appears i was wrong. they should call it poser money machine
