32mm Webber On 4k

Recommended Posts

well as the title says i have been talkin 2 someone that mite hav a spare 32mm webber that i can put on my 4k ke25,

so i was wondering if it would be worth the bother putting it ont the motor or not.... he reakons up to 10kw from the webber carb conversion!

another question is I'm still running the original 4 spd from the 3k motor.. i think making the top speed 110 at 5000rpm which is fair high for the motor, so an ideas for a cost effective conversion.... ie bolt on! hav bn told 5spd from ta22 is a perfect bolt on match!

thanks!

agree, read up on some stuff first as you can find the answers as well as other things that you didnt think of in the same thread/faq area.

besides weather the combination works or not, if you can get a webber for not much then grab it anyway cause youll end up finding something for it

Weber's are a very specific carby, and really only suit cross flow heads.

"32mm Weber's" isnt very helpful though, but i suppose uve been advised to get the ones off old fords, which arnt really performance carby's, but better than other produciton carby's.

DOCE on the other hand would kinda need twincam multivalve heads with custom exhaust. There is a Weber specialist in Sydney i use, and without touching my weber carby's on my old gemini (1.8ltr SOHC), got me an extra 16kw with a custom exhaust, its bends and length are quite differnet to the norm.

U can buy a single DOCE into a 3/4k manifold (thats 1 weber off a twin weber set) and is supposed to be good, but i wouldnt bother unless i was planing to do a lot of other head work.

(thats 40 - 42 - 45mm)

On the other hand, there is a good Gemini Nikki Carby "how to" on this site, describing the procedure to stick them on a stock K intake manifold.

Id say this is a good option, as it isnt a bad carby, and parts are really cheap.

Nikki in running condition (out of a running car) will cost about $10.

And a rebuild kit is about $60.

Ive got a few spare Nikki's, and have rebuild a few as well, and compared to a set of Weber's its a joke for price. (Rebuild and tune for a pair of DOCE's is probably $600-$800

I will talk from expirence, it may not be advice, but its a story never the less.

My ke70 was origionally stock (as they all are, at one point ) - That 4K power was not up to standards, so i found a 4k that had been worked. (4k bottom end, 3k bigport head, down draft 32 36 weber, Cam, 2" exhaust on extractors).

MMM, the ol girl pulled hard then, for a 1.3 - i was happy.

Well..

Untill, my long lost love came into my life (4d_1_b.JPG)

Put those on, and i sware, if anyone puts a weber on / near my car again, ill be getting out a hacksaw and the automatic oil'ing hammer :D

If you want my advice, piss that 3k off and get a 4k.. keep the 3k head tho :D

But depends what your $$ is i guess...

what has been done to the 4k?

unless you have at least extractors and a decent exhaust there really isn't much to be gained from a weber upgrade. headwork and a cam will help wakeup more HP with a carb swap.

at the moment i am running a stock 3k carb on my warm 5k as my 28/36 DCD weber died. my 5k is solid liftered with extractors, exhaust, cam and headwork. with the stocky 3k aisan carb strangling it, it will still match a brand new v6 commodore up to 100 kays. a bit slow atm but will be fixed very soon. :harhar:
