Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 got oil in the sparkplug holes....alot of it... i dunno if previous owner spilt oil in 2of them, or its forced its way out of the head... also, what cause a engine to backfire....loud!...is it carby runing too rich? thanks Quote
Felix Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 (edited) sparkplug tubes have probably been overtightened at some stage. a lean condition is more likely to cause a backfire. burnt valves don't help, maybe check your valve clearances, and ignition timing? Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 ok, cause engine is playing up bad, coughsand spluters...needs a good tune, know of how to get the oil out from around the plugs?, do i just take the plug out? Quote
Felix Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 know of how to get the oil out from around the plugs?, do i just take the plug out? you can do that. you could always degrease it, and suck the excess water that endsu up in the plug tubes out with a big syringe, with a bit of vacuum tubing attached. check the fit of the end of the plug tubes around the spark plug threads. when they are overtightened they stretch and open up in bad cases. you may need to find a better set? the plug tube orings should be sealed with permatex No. 3 non hardening aviation gasket goo. be fairly generous and they will never leak. Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 thanks mate, will go over it tommorow maybe, how much can a stock 4k take, i read some people take em to over 6grand...geez I'm scared it would blow up Quote
Felix Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 i have found a stock bottom end in good nick will be fine up to 8 grand. unless you have cam, compression, headwork, induction and exhaust systems addressed there is no point revving that hard. my last 4k made peak HP around 7500 rpm. it loved revs. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 geez 8 grand, not gunna do anywork till i source a 3K head..., dunno what sorta nick the 4K block is in though, could be bad, i dunno! Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 well u shut up mate...LMAO motor is gunna have to last a few months, gotta other bits that need doing first, like the brakes, tyres, exhuast, carpet for inside etc Quote
Xany Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 if there was a over 8000rpm club, nick, jamie, redwarf, myself and doug would all be in it....lol Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 i could be too, but i don't see the motor still being runable..LOL going corolla shopping next week, hopefully be able to pick up some bits i need, Quote
TRD ke70 Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 what about a 9000rpm club???? try buying some new "O" for the plug tubes and use some sealant on them when you install them. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 3, 2006 Author Report Posted January 3, 2006 my taco...lol..tacho only reads to 8grand.. can't wait till i get a decent built 4k, hopefully can buy one cheap, if not might have to buy a whole rolla as a wreck.,...hope not! Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 My standard 5K peaked at 4500 on the dyno, so there was no point in taking it past that....once I put the SC on, that obviously changed, I haven't had it on the dyno again yet, but I know it can do 8 :D I didn't like the noises it made though, so it wont be doing that too often. Rolla__Boy Posted January 3, 2006 Report Posted January 3, 2006 And now the supercharger is gently persuading the KE30 to go far too fast for the brakes to cope hehe Quote
beerhead Posted January 4, 2006 Report Posted January 4, 2006 The burr on the cup is killing your seal dude * Put the sparky cup flat upright on a bench. * Find a good bolt/ punch the width of the bottom of the cup and and hammer it flat again. * Get a die grinder or a round file and take the burr off the aluminum edge so the spark plug fits again. Then as TRD KE70 says. try buying some new "O" for the plug tubes and use some sealant on them when you install them. That stopped the oil getting blown out under compression with mine. New cups are exxy, and the wreckers are hit and miss. Quote
