Hi guys,

 

I have a question. Basically, i used to know a panel beater that used to "modify" the exhausts of his cars. As a result, the cars always sounded a bit louder and tough! All with the car's standard exhaust

 

What i want to know is, "is it possible to somehow make the standard exhaust on my ae82 corolla sound a little tougher and "rorty" by doing a few simple modifications?

 

Basically, insurance wont allow me to modiy my car with an aftermarket exhaust, and i can't stand driving a car that has such a wimpy exhaust note.

Just cut it off after the manifold :rocknroll:

or cut the tip off at the muffler and weld on a relatively long 3" tip, makes a bit more noise that way

I remember working at a servo a few years ago an elderly women came in and asked me what was up with her exhaust after she got fuel, turned out that it was just hte tips had fallen off the muffler. Was a n12/13 pulsar with a stock exhaust and it sounded quite good suprisingly.

Not sure if mine sounds tough or not - hard to tell from the drivers seat - but it has a decent note

if you want a deeper note doesny putting extractors on help your cause? and that way its not even an exhaust system, i doubt the amount of sound will make alot of real difference, the thing that makes your exhaust sound quiet is the muffler not the size of the pipe. just try and find a muffler thats empty, like mine :rocknroll:

Find out exactally they mean by aftermarket.

Basically if you have to replace your exhaust

it becomes aftermarket, therefore they should

have some guide lines and you may be able

to play around a little.

 

A cut section of tailshaft as a tip makes a

good resonator.(The longer the better)

cut the back muffler off and go straight through pipe. if u go cuttin off anymore mufflers, they start soundin like tractors. cost ya bout $70 at an exhaust shop to do, or the angle grinder at home and a bit of DIY!!!

loud doesn't equal tough. most people can see when a car is revving loudly but NOT REALLY MOVING VERY FAST. sounds like you want a different car mate. :cool:

comin out of work just before and as i just got me license gunnin it up, bought 50k in second so i was shiftin for a 10k road outta the car park, and i come round the bend, coppers are talkin to a bunch of "hoons" and as i come round they look up and are tryna get a better look, without the exhaust i woulda been able to brake before the heard me, but its ok, they never followed me...phew!

luckey for you then man. still rather have a beefy exhaust though :)

i like cars that move fast but don't make much noise. very stealth.

330Ci comes to mind. Seriously, unless you are making good power don't bother with a loud exhaust or you just look like a stupid boy racer.

and you JC person, a good exhaust is a step on the way to making good power, usually a good exhaust is a loud exhaust coz its less restrictive :(

so if you go extractors and a bigger exhaust with a high flowing muffler you will make more power....most of us "stupid boy racers that drive our "shitbox" corollas as you like to call them can't afford a 330Cibbq so do what we can with what we have.
