Raven Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Change your dash cluster. My temp gauge never worked until i changed the cluster. Just make sure you add your original speedo back into the cluster when you swap it over as to keep the original K's on it. Other than that, if your temp gauge works fine afterwards but the fuel gauge doesnt, then change the fuel sender unit in your fuel tank. Quote
Robert Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 The one in my KE55 does not work at all, ocassionally when i bang the gauge it works but not for very long. Quote
Raven Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 (edited) Just replaced the sender unit in my panel van and its worse than what the original one was. :P So i popped the cover off the moving part and bent the tab over that rubs against the resistor and it seems to be working stacks better now. I'll let you know how i go. Mick Edited March 10, 2006 by AE35 Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted March 10, 2006 Author Report Posted March 10, 2006 Probably a noob question but me KE55 has a wire going to it from the side and my KE30 one has its wires going directly in top of it, so how do i replace the sender is that the thing the wires get connected too? (i'am guessing it is) how hard are these to replace? , Regards, Trent Quote
Raven Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Piece of piss to replace dude. Make sure you got less than 1/4 of a tank, otherwise you'll need something to catch the fuel that runs out when u undo it. Removal 1. Undo the 2 screws that hold the cover on. 2. Disconnect the fuel sender wire. Make sure you note which part of the plug it connects into 3. Undo the 5 or 6 screws that hold the sender unit in. 4. Gently maneuvre(sp?) the sender unit out. 5. Pry off cover (you don't need to bend the tabs) 6. Bend the thin piece of metal towards the resistor (coiled wire) 7. Replace cover, making sure that the tabs are tight when it goes back on. Installation is the reverse of Removal from steps 4 to 1. Let me know how you go. Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 Will do man, Thanks for that, Quote
JiP Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Done & Done!! thanks for that!! Now to the next speedo problem... My clock, works at times and sometimes not. Any Ideas??? thanks, Jon. Quote
Raven Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 Mine works intermittently too. No idea what it is. Yet to yank the clock apart and have a look. Could possibly be a dry solder joint or something. Quote
JiP Posted March 13, 2006 Report Posted March 13, 2006 I played with the two wires on the back while I had it open on Saturday. The black and the red ones. But still nothing. Looks like I have to get inside and take the face off. Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Posted March 13, 2006 Every KE3x And KE5x i have owned the clocks are never accurate me thinks its because there old? Quote
bruce Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 I just put a clock in my gauge cluster, since it didn't have one. I could hear it tick, but after a couple of hours it stopped :hmm: . I took it apart to have a look at it. I had 9V battery for the power supply (probably should be 12V). It would start if I turned one of the cogs to get it going, but it kept on stopping. The electric motor seem to be working OK though. The clock kept on getting jammed; one of the components inside, the part which makes the tick noise I think, kept on stopping. I also fiddled with the speed adjustment of the clock to see if that made a difference, which I shouldn't of really done, since its set correctly in the factory :y: . With all the internal clock parts, I didn't know what to do next, so I called around for a clock repairer. Took about 4 or 5 calls to clock repairers around Hobart till I found someone who would attempt to fix it. They said they don't deal with automotive parts. But its a clock, should work the same. The clock repairer was into antique clocks and stuff, and he seemed confident in getting it going. He got it going. He said there were two things that were in need of attention: 1. The electric motor had collected dust over the years, so he cleaned that out. 2. Parts in the clock kept on getting jammed, so he fixed that. He also had the device to set the speed of the clock. He charged me $10 for the job. I've only had the clock in for a few days, and it seems to be keeping the time OK. The clock repairer said it might be out by a minute each week. It was mainly due to age of the clock, getting weared out over the years. Quote
JiP Posted July 11, 2006 Report Posted July 11, 2006 I think i'll just end up putting a nice tacho in its place. I just picked up my car from my panel beater today and she didn't wanna start at first. If i don't run the car daily, the crappy clock that works sometimes, flattens the batterie. :hmm: Quote
bruce Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 Yeah, a 2 inch tachometer would be good to replace the clock; it would be more useful :lolcry: Quote
JiP Posted July 12, 2006 Report Posted July 12, 2006 (edited) :lolcry: -True cause you have a digital clock on your sterio anyway. Edited July 16, 2006 by JiP_01 Quote
