Made a bit more progress on the wagon. By pulling off the drivers door

 

Which has given me the access to the hole drilled in the car body

 

And the hole in the door.

 

The plan of attack is of welding up the holes, drilling in new holes in better locations and fitting this snap bushes

And that was last nights work.

 

Todays achievement was of welding up the holes, painting the welds and drilling new holes for the snap bushes.

And for Reed - the power windows.

 

From what i worked out, this was about the best location for the motor.

 

About how close you'd be aiming on getting the cable to the interior door release rod.

 

The one spot that you'll have to be careful is around the window winder,

So either pull out the winder mechanism or wind the glass up and take care on how deep you cut into the metal.

While i was at it, i added in the central locking solenoid

Where i fitted the solenoid can be seen in the first photo, bottom right corner of the door (near the window motor) is two silver headed screws. And the lock rod from the solenoid goes straight up to the lock button at the top of the door.

On the subject of covering the winder mechanism I wonder if you could buy some sort of switch cover to mount over it to actually mount the electric window buttons in? Or modify one from another car?

Yep, i know that feeling but i'm glad the list isn't growing too fast.

 

I'm tossing up on the idea of making new door cards for the front doors. Gets rid of the horrid holes near the lock buttons and i can pretty up the doors

or you could put some alloy sheet over the top half of the door (it will cover all the unwanted holes )

I've had a thought of that idea of yours but then i start thinking of hot days and my flesh on the alloy. Yes, i'm a sook when it comes to sitting my arm on hot metal :)

 

I've had a change of ideas on where the holes for the wiring should go between the door and the frame

 

started welding up the old hole in the door tonight. Proved a bit pointless, the welding face shield i have is solar powered. Might have to invest in a battery backup version one of these nights.
