rhysscott Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 hi everyone, i have a issue with my ae92 hatch, started disc front drum rear, i did the common upgrade to the s2 sx front n rear setup except i got slotted rotters on front. all was good untill i was defected for my turbo and long story short after going to get engerneers cert. he wanted a brake test to show i didnt have all my stopping power in front. so i got a brake test done and it said i have 92% on front 8% rear he said i need more than 8% at rear my question is that has anyone else encounted this and how you may have fixed this. i was told from a brake person that i needed the master cylender from the disc/disc setup and what i had was the disc/drum settup but after he fitted the new mc i had gone to a whole 9% at rear any help greatly appricated thanks Quote
TRD ke70 Posted May 23, 2012 Report Posted May 23, 2012 so you now have 4 wheel disc's? if so you need the brake proportioning valve to go with that setup, or pull your one apart and f**k with it. Quote
parrot Posted May 26, 2012 Report Posted May 26, 2012 And go to a different brake person as they have no idea what they are talking about. As above, you need the correct proportioning valve from a four wheel disc setup. I would be stunned if there is any variation in the master cylinder. At least you know you have a nice new master cyl however. Quote
rhysscott Posted May 29, 2012 Author Report Posted May 29, 2012 so the brake proportioning valve isnt in the master cyl? would u know where i might find it on car?? Quote
Rob 5000 Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) ah grasshopper we too have a problem with rear braking performance. See the ae92 is apparently well known to not have enough braking bias to the rear. We've had so much trouble with wearing out the front disc pads b4 a track day is over and we've tried some very expensive pads and rotor upgrades to stop it. Finally sorted now with Bazda brake upgrade. What we did was put ae93 rear rotors and callipers on it. Its pretty much bolt on. The pads are the same but the rotor is bigger diameter so you get more leverage from the clamping power of the bigger disk. Its a shit load of engineering work to adjust the proportioning valve. What would be interesting would be to take a standard ae92 to the engineer and see what rear brake percentage it gets, pretty good chance it wil be exactly the same as what you have. MYSTIK[RL] Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 (edited) all ae9x's with with rear disc use a 242mm rotor? same goes for an ae82 are you sure you didnt do the ae101 rear disc/caliper with larger 266mm rotor? Edited May 29, 2012 by MYSTIK Quote
4k-t Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 If you took the propotioning valve off a all wheel disc setup car ie the car you got the brakes from. And used it with your car you shouldn't need an engerneer. It was factory fitted to that model of car, you just got the pov pack. Quote
rhysscott Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 thx guys for help. ended up being brake "expert" jumped to conclusion( that it was wrong master) and stuck to it. turns out last person to fit rear pads somehow fitted them incorrectly and were hardly touching rotor hence no rear brake %, with new pads and new rotors was like 16% at rear now. so it passed for my eng. cert. thx again Quote
