Alright well I have an 82 corolla coupe and I plan on doing a 1uz swap soon. I'm wanting to swap the ae86 gts front end suspension stuff along with the steering rack and crossmember etc. I was wondering if anyone has done this and also if anyone has swapped rear ends what rear end they used. I have seen the ae86 gts rear end, supra, and even some ford rear end swaps and would like to know what it would take for each rear end to work on my car. If any just bolt right up or what would have to be modded to work. When finished it will be a full track (drift) car that might see some street use but not much at all. I am located in the U.S. by the way.

OK I am doing this to my TE72 liftback, it is alot of work and does cost alot of money if you do everything yourself you won't see much change from 10k, which is about near what I have spent as it's not just a matter of upgrading engine, gearbox and diff, you need better suspension and brakes to stop the car you also have to work out a way to keep the brake booster in the engine bay, same deal with clutch master cylinder as the rh engine bank takes up that space.

That's all I'm going to say for now.

welcome to rollaclub mate.

the realty is, anything that wasnt standard on a car is going to need fairly major modification to fit into it.

the rear differentials most definately, pretty much anything will "fit". its a matter of modifying the mounting points in order to allow them to fit. the general way of doing this for differentials is to get a standard differential, and your chosen upgraded one, and transfer all the mounts from the stnadard one to hte new one in exactly the same spot. using some sort of jig to position them.

82 corolla coupe would be simliar to the ke70 series here, popular donor rear differnetials include R31 skyline, hilux, torago etc. which all require extensive modification to install into the car.

but given you are in america you might have better/different cars to choose from.

Thank you both for the response. I already planned on replacing the suspension and brakes but I was just asking about this part in particular. Now Ive heard that the GTS rear end bolts right up to my car but would it handle the power coming from a mild bolt on 1uz?

Also you have the manual conversion gear. As they never came out manual you need a custom bellhousing which i've seen around the 500-600 mark and pretty sure a new ecu to allow the engine to run it

GTS as in ae-86? I'd imagine it would hold the power but not the torque. This depends on how much mechanical sympathy you have.

Yessir the ae86. And alright thank you. I might look into the supra rear end since it is already pretty durable

You can fool the ecu into thinking it's in neutral all the time not hard and people have been doing it for ages. I have a hilux diff under mine, made all the mounts myself and did everything, you need to know now that it WON'T be a cheap conversion, my manual conversion parts cost me 1.5k and that was as cheap as I could find a conversion for it unless you go a W box and a 2nd hand kit or something.

I'm pretty familiar with what to do for the rest of the swap, I was just curious to see if anyone had any experience with different rear ends. I really appreciate all the responses so far. Does anyone have any links to completed 1uz e72 swap builds?
