Willis Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) Hey guys, my blacktop is running a little funny. Had a massive flat spot around 2500/3000 rpm. Ran the diagnostic on it and it gave us the codes for speedo sensor and intake air temp. I haven't put much thought into the intake air temp, we fixed the speedo issue, set the timing on the relocated dizzy and it ran a whole lot better. Drives great but still not as good as it could be, still coughs and pops a little when you get up in the rev range. I was just wondering if the dizzy on the back of the head could be out aswell? Even though it's blanked off?And if it would make a difference? The car is drivable and makes usable power, it could just run a little better. Anyone know if that could be an issue for me? Or am I just tripping? Cheers guys. EDIT: I should also I add that I'm not too up to scratch of the concept of the distributor. I just know it's for my ignition timing. So forgive me if I'm making a completely pointless thread. Edited October 3, 2012 by Willis Quote
rian Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Did you set the timing in diagnostic mode with a timing light? Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 I was just wondering if the dizzy on the back of the head could be out aswell? Even though it's blanked off? Is there a distributor there at all?? What is wired up to it if there is?? I can't picture "blanked off" You need the intake air temp for the ECU to calculate the air mass which gives it the amount of oxygen going in. It needs air temp and air velocity through a fixed cross-section of intake. Then it factors that into the amount of fuel to add and cross-checks it against the oxy senosr in the exhaust. It might be hard to pin down, the misfire could be too little fuel, too much fuel, spark at the wrong time or no spark at all. A dyno session with a gas meter up the exhaust and an oscilloscope for spark would be the answer. Quote
ke70dave Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Id say air intake temp is one that needs to be done to make it run perfect. either way its best to have no codes up. I think on the FWD 20vs its usually in the airbox, i dunno what your intake setup looks like atm, but just put the sensor close to where its sucking in air. got a photo of this dizzy relotation kit? where did you relocate it too? onto the front of engine? B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 http://www.ae82.net/showthread.php?1881-4AGE-20v-Blacktop-Engine-Manual You might already have a manual but if not. Quote
Willis Posted October 5, 2012 Author Report Posted October 5, 2012 Did you set the timing in diagnostic mode with a timing light? We did indeed. Is there a distributor there at all?? I don't have a photo of the dizzy relocation but it's to the front of the head. Yeah the sensor would have been in the airbox because it's the only part we didn't get in the halfcut. I believe 7A intake temp sensors are the same? Could be an option? http://www.ae82.net/...p-Engine-Manual You might already have a manual but if not. Cheers Reed. Quote
Sam_Q Posted October 5, 2012 Report Posted October 5, 2012 take one and post a pic of your dizzy kit I might know what the problem is Quote
Willis Posted October 14, 2012 Author Report Posted October 14, 2012 You're thinking of the slip or play in it? It's the SP Tec relocation. I think you may have mentioned something about it when I ordered my water kit and stacks from you. Quote
Sam_Q Posted October 14, 2012 Report Posted October 14, 2012 yes that's the one, you could temporarily jam something in there to stop it moving to see if it runs better. Quote
Willis Posted October 15, 2012 Author Report Posted October 15, 2012 It runs well, just occasionally up high in the rev range it will carry on a little bit. I could just be making an issue out of nothing, the exhaust would probably cause a little gargling and popping. I'm probably just reading too far into things. If I ever have major issues with it, the relocation kit is the first place I'll be looking. Quote
