B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Try a motorcycle shop and see if you can find a return spring to suit. Think outside the box, I refuse to believe there isnt a spring to suit within 5 minutes of you. Even My shitty local hardware store has a whole rack of springs. Quote
parrot Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Absolutely agree with Reed. It is a spring that goes from here to there. Â The difference essentially is that the rear springs have to fit around a handbrake mechanism whilst the front springs don't. Â All that matters is the length and tension. If it is a drum brake spring from anything else, it will do the job. Quote
AMITO69ROLLA Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 Remember here in Florida we have like four mayor auto parts ... Been thru all of them tried to match springs with no luck , and the brake shops that we have around here order the parts from those auto parts ... I was just trying to see if anybody have a set for sale even if is a used set .. Quote
ke70dave Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Have you been to the wreckers? and if so how many different types of cars did you pull the drum brake off and compare the spring? Â Many cars still come with drum brakes, cheap hyundais etc. One of them is bound to fit without too much trouble. Quote
philbey Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Your best bet is to go visit a spring maker with the unbroken spring from the other drum. They should have no probLem making ine up. Â Springs are cheap and easy to make. I reckon if you shop around, find a little grimy spring maker somewhere and get talking, you should be fixed up for under 50 bucks. Get a few made while your at it. To make one or ten will cost the same. Â All you need are the dimensions often spring and wire, and you can simply calculate the spring rate. Very basic. Â Try places like this optimumspring.com/ http://www.cookspring.com/products.html Quote
AMITO69ROLLA Posted October 16, 2013 Author Report Posted October 16, 2013 Thank you guys for all the info and ideas .....!!! Quote
mattress Posted October 17, 2013 Report Posted October 17, 2013 I should have what you're looking for. I'll see if I can dig it out of the shed, I'm just hoping I didn't bin them. Perhaps you should send me a PM sometime to remind me. Quote
CorollaNut68 Posted October 19, 2013 Report Posted October 19, 2013 You need to find an old guy at NAPA who knows how to do something besides look in a book. Most of the people working in parts stores nowadays aren't even real car people and only know what the computer tells them to hand you. If all else fails (and you would like to be able to stop after driving through puddles, I know you get puddles nearly every day around 2-3 o'clock, I lived in Orlando for 2 years), you can order rotors, calipers and pads and do a front disc swap....the stuff from 70-72 will bolt directly on with no modification, you can set your drums aside and do them later if you want. Keep the original stuff for shows and use the discs for daily driving, they make a big difference. Quote

I was hopping i can use later model rotors and struts like late 80s with out doing a lot of mod ... But i will look into the 70s parts... I think thats the best route to goThanks  Quote
parrot Posted October 19, 2013 Report Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) Your struts are 3 bolt attachment to the steering arm, so later struts isn't a bolt on, although some have managed it  Disc brake conversion is simple  http://www.rollaclub...rake_Conversion   Edit: there are various threads detailing it on here. Do bear in mind that in Australia our KE55/70's used a Girling caliper.  Essentially you need KE70 Discs and calipers. Discs very cheap on ebay, KE30 or KE55 backing plates and caliper mounts. mattress Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) Â Â I'm surprised I actually found them. Are the springs side specific because I could only get one side off? Edited October 20, 2013 by mattress Quote
AMITO69ROLLA Posted October 20, 2013 Author Report Posted October 20, 2013   I'm surprised I actually found them. Are the springs side specific because I could only get one side off? both sides are the same, there two set in each side bottom and top. How much for the set.? Quote
mattress Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 $1000 for the set. Only joking, they should go in an envelope so postage should be cheap enough. They're free but let's say $10 for postage and my time? Quote
