so i lockwired the weights in the dizzy timing is 25 degrees and i blocked the vac advance on the dizzy yet when i rev it and timing light on it still moves advance a lot lot less then before but still i little is that normal?

It shouldn't move at all. Its ok to leave the vac advance operational, although its not really needed with that much static timing. Its a bit hard for it to add anything on boost! :P

Ohh and the gap should be fine at .8mm

ʞ©$ɟ its still moving :S have to open up the dizzy and check again erghhh... is there anything that could be making it move if the weights are still locked?

on another note timing is not moving now i think i forgot to tighten the screens on the top of the points :S hahah also, now on full boost in second gear pulling it hits a cut and backfires furiously which is either fuel or spark i guess any ideas on troubleshooting and working it out?

What do you have in the way of a fuel system?

Aha! You should get an electric fuel pump on there stat. It may be leaning out when your carby runs out of fuel.

 

The stock mechanical pump doesn't push a lot of volume. You don't need a high pressure pump. A 6 PSI pump would smash it.

As above....that's most likely your issue. Holley red or a Carter green would be plenty. Don't get a facet unless you like the sound of a can full of marbles.

new problem I've encountered is blue smoke out the tail pipe, and LOTS of it after a strong pull etc. i can't believe its the piston rings because all 4 cyls where 150psi on compression test, would it be excessive oil getting to the turbo as I have heard of this problem in another friends 4k turbo setup, and just running a hose joiner with 2-3mm gap reduce the oil flow well enough?

You could get a porno pretty much anywhere, dare say Ebay might be the cheapest. A simple carby reg wouldn't be a bad idea, not sure what pressure su's like (waits for Altezza to pipe in lol).

 

What are your valve stem seals like? Smoke could be the turbo. Do you have a nice big hose on the oil drain? And have it on a nice down hill slope to the sump?

Altezza, we require an SU carb (175CD zenith) fuel pressure hahaha :D

 

Valve stem seals are fine, turbo has got a nice big oil drain line but just thinking back it was blowing mass smoke when it was parked on a big angle which would've pushed all the oil to the side of the sump where to oil return was in which case there may not have been enough pressure in the oil lines to push it back out.. but i guess the constant small amount of smoke is turbo overflow from the feed inlet i think ill put a reducer in and see if it makes a difference
