jimsKE10 Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Hey all, just wondering if there are jack points on a ke10 and where should I put stands on the car if I am raising the rear to change the shocks. Cheers. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Jacking points are on the body seam just behind the front wheel arch and in front of the rear wheel arch. I'm not sure best place to put stands,I usually put them under the k frame and under the leaf springs at the back... This could be wrong. Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 I'd go for the front mounts of the springs, or the chassis rail there, so the springs can be lowerd to relax the shocks. Leave the jack under the diff and just lower it as far as you need. That assumes you have a little trolley jack, a vital part of any old Toyota owner's kit! Quote
parrot Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 What ever you do, DO NOT put a trolley jack under the factory jacking points. Only use those with the scissor jack that came with the car. Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 DO NOT put a trolley jack under the factory jacking points. Good point! I use a trolley jack and only jack on the diff, the chassis rails by the suspension, or the engine crossmember. Quote
parrot Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Same, plus always good to have a piece of high density rubber to protect the car and minimise slippage. Or at least it would be if I could fit a jack underneath the AE86..... Quote
ke70dave Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Just to answer the original question, i would be jacking of the diff and since you want to change the shocks you need the diff to drop down. There should be a stronger section of body around where the leaf springs attach i would have thought. Simliar to where the trailing arms attach on a 5 link. What are our thoughts on trolley jacks with this type of adaptor to fit around the seams on the car? Edited October 22, 2014 by ke70dave Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 Clever! I'd like it a T-section above the round part to spread the load along the sills further, but you get what you can find. Quote
jimsKE10 Posted November 3, 2014 Author Report Posted November 3, 2014 Hey all thanks heaps for your help. Yeah I have a trolley jack so I've been using it on my dif. As for stands I had them on the leaf springs but got told by a friends I should put them on the axel. Is this right? I thought all that weight may put too much pressure on it and possibly bend it.
