December 18, 201411 yr comment_691998 Hi all. Picked up this KE70 from a mate recently to get onto the track with. I was 3/4 of the way through prepping a VT commodore for circuit duties but the costs were starting to get hefty. I planned on converting all the suspension arms on that to rose joint and costs were just blowing out, even with DIY every thing. Only so many hours in the day too Over a few drinks at said mates work shop n spied this in the corner neglected as he had just bought a fully prepped KE70 LS1 powered drift car. Report
December 18, 201411 yr Author comment_691999 Sooooooo then I pulled out the LS1/ T56 and sold them to a mate asap. LS1 is a great engine but in a car this light is severely over kill and plus I already had a full drive line for a turbo V6 ready to go in. At the stage of mock up now and need to get it back a bit further (15cm between bunky plenum and firewall) and a tad lower too as there's a chance it doesn't need a bonnet scoop. Once a good mock position is achieved I'll set about making some mounts. Great to have stumbled across this car. The more I learn about them, the more they impress me! Report
December 18, 201411 yr Author comment_692000 After help from a few good people on here I decided on fitting an R31 diff to handle the torque. Unbelievably the next day after realizing what was needed the exact thing I was looking for came up for sale albeit in another state.............where luckily a mate that is a helpful sort happily drove the 3 hour round trip to pick up for me :) Winning! This diff has already been converted to KE70 arm pick up points and only needs some brakes and prolly a freshen up but for $300 no complaining Report

Living near Calder, Sandown, Winton, PI etc means plenty opportunity to stretch it's legs :) Safety is where it's at for the rest of the build Report

December 19, 201411 yr Author comment_692005 Cheap diff! Is it lsd? Yeah hope to sell the whiteline bits off as I've already ordered T3 solid mount everything. I haven't got the diff at mine yet as my mate is bringing it over from Radelaide to Melbs next week, not sure if it's LSD but guessing it's a cig special lol. Looking for a kaaz centre though and different gear ratio as it's currently 4.11:1. not the best for a turbo car of this weight That diff needs a pinion seal pronto! Sweet project though Hell yeah lol. I'll do bearings n full over haul before I track it. Just want to get this thing on the road and would rather a new un messed with heavy cheap wheel than something cheap 2nd hand that's been street skidded/ gutter bashed lol Safety first! Will upgrade to a 15 x 9" once the car is together and have done a couple shake down days. Should also have enough cash to resume eating meat n veg again by then instead of 2 minute noodles. Go fast parts cost haha I like Team Dynamics wheels as they're quite affordable and mega light. Will also check out SSrs too Edited January 24, 201511 yr by batmo Report

By the way what are those metal things standing up on either side of your suspension stash? The boxes are part of an equal 4 link kit where you cut the floor pan to replace the shorter top link bars. This is to correct pinion angle and aid traction. Big learning curves ahead but the kit is well though out so should go together ok with a bit of planning on my part https://technotoytuning.com/toyota/ae86/equal-length-4-link-kit-ae86 This some one elses set up if that helps Report
January 31, 201511 yr Author comment_693675 Final piece of the puzzle has arrived. Shouldn't be bending the tie rods any time soon! Turbo pipes have been dropped off to HPC and still needing to sort something out for engine fitment regarding the oil sump fouling the cross member.
