Hey all me and mate just made an interesting discovery, when you put the throttle flat the secondary doesn't even open, we tried this on my mates TA23 and it did the same are they governed from the factory or our are carbs rooted?

was the car running? if not the secondaries are most probably vacuum secondaries i know the corolla ones are. wait for more of an expert to put in there opinion

The secondaries on my 4K open when you put the throttle flat.

maybe robert yours is a mechanical secondary

Rob is that when the motor is on or off?

The secondaries have two butterflies, one opens with the throttle and one is controlled by engine vacumm (it is attatched to the weight thingy on the outside of the carb).

Yor can unscrew the vacumm butterfly if you want. Don' t know what effect it would have........

you'd end up with a huge flatspot if you mashed the throttle at low revs.

not necessarily Doug. Did that in my club car and it was fine in motorkhanas.

depends on how heavy breathing the engine is i suppose. a stock 4k probably would not like it, but a 5k probably could take it.

 

a quick easy test is to wire the flapper valve open, and go for a drive.

Put a spring on your secondary so it opens easier.
