Bluebeast Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 Hey guys, I'm look to add foglights to my pre facelift AE112. I'm wondering if the necessary wiring is tucked away in the car somewhere like with some electronic components or if i have to do my own wiring. If its the latter, how would I go about that? Cheers! altezzaclub Posted November 10, 2020 Report Posted November 10, 2020 If any models of your year had foglights, then the wiring will be in the car. If it was only after the facelift then possibly not. You might have to trawl the net through the most dodgy sites listing wiring diagrams that force you to sign up then supply the wrong wiring diagram at glacial speed, but a factory wiring diagram will tell you the colours and connectors involved. Try the other Toyota forums too. If you hunt around behind the front bumper you might find un-used connectors that are for foglights. There is likely a switch blank plate in the dash that you poke out and install a switch for them. If not, you start from scratch with a switch, a relay and some wires... Quote

Had a look in there and there seems to be some wires! Hopefully all goes well then. Thank you! Quote
parrot Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 Although I wouldn't be surprised if there is a plug for an auxiliary loom, which you would need to source, or make up at the front. Hopefully there is a corresponding plug under the dash that just needs a switch Quote
Banjo Posted November 11, 2020 Report Posted November 11, 2020 (edited) Hi Lewis, Plenty of stuff on the net, regarding fitting fog lights to Corollas. https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/factory-style-fog-wiring.1673247/ You can also get the actual fog light switch on line, with plug & wire tails, that just plugs into your dash/facia, in place of the little blanking piece. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000188196228.html?src=google&albch=shopping&acnt=494-037-6276&isdl=y&slnk=&plac=&mtctp=&albbt=Google_7_shopping&aff_platform=google&aff_short_key=UneMJZVf&&albagn=888888&albcp=9604210690&albag=100463787298&trgt=296904913880&crea=en4000188196228&netw=u&device=c&albpg=296904913880&albpd=en4000188196228&gclid=CjwKCAiAtK79BRAIEiwA4OskBoyZRHSciKJdBNOMQA2rrsv65IXKrlS99FnPuuyEQbJPOSniZzr5zxoC9JoQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds You might need the changeover relay also. Hopefully, if you've found the wiring already exists, it is just a case of adding lights, switch, & relay. Hope that assists. Cheers Banjo Edited November 11, 2020 by Banjo Quote

Cheers Banjo Hey, thanks for the info, just wondering if it would be a slightly different process for a headlight stalk with a fog light switch. I got one of those but don't know if just swapping it will allow it to work. Any ideas? Cheers Quote
Banjo Posted November 22, 2020 Report Posted November 22, 2020 Hi Lewis, Is the headlight stalk, assembly, with fog light switch built in, identical to your currently fitted one, except the foglight switch function ? If so, & the plug at the end of it lead is the same as your current one, I see no reason why it can't be used. If the plug & socket is easily accessible, I'd be unplugging the installed one, & plugging in the "fog light" one, & see if all the light switching functions still work, before swapping them out. Hey Banjo, yes its identical apart from the foglights function. Plugged it in and everything works apart from the foglights. Is there a relay that currently is not in my car that i need to source? Banjo Posted November 23, 2020 Report Posted November 23, 2020 Hi Lewis, If there is a factory original harness down behind the fog lights, that is not used, then that is probably for the fog lights. If you have hooked it up, you will need to add a plug-in relay, for the fog-lights to work. Toyota would not provide a relay, if there was no fog lights fitted. However, the harness & relay/fuse box would be wired for fog lights, & all you should have to do, is add relay & fuse to the relay/fuse box. Should be a goer. Cheers Banjo Quote

Banjo Posted November 23, 2020 Report Posted November 23, 2020 Hi Lewis, It would be highly unlikely that Toyota would switch a 15A circuit through the small switches in the lighting stalk. Put the 15A fuse in, switch the fog light stalk on, & then go look for a +12V signal somewhere. When you find it, pull the 15A fuse out, & make sure the +12V disappears. If there is no relay provided, then use this +12V switched signal to power a relay, which will feed another +12V fused circuit to your fog-lamps, as per the sketches, earlier in this thread. Cheers Banjo Quote
