Sidewinder Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Well I'm nearly ready to begin the swapover to make my car a manual, and there is only one last uncertainty left that i need to sort out...and that is; Will the existing starter motor from my auto work with a manual? or will i need one off a manual ke70? thanks guys, youve been great help so far :jealous: :D Quote
Felix Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 i think it should do. i run a ke10 starter to turn over my 5k. it works fine. Quote

Felix Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 (edited) no it wasn't. i was moreso commenting on how interchangable the starters are, a 1968 starter on an 82-84 engine. actually thinking about it, i did convert a mates ke30 from auto to manual. we used the same starter. Sidewinder Posted June 16, 2006 Author Report Posted June 16, 2006 excellente! thanks mate :jealous: Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted June 16, 2006 Report Posted June 16, 2006 Same. We did Auto to Manual convert on a KE35 and used the same starter Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 my '69 ke18 starter would jam up on the '81 starlet flywheel....... Quote
Taz_Rx Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 I currently have a auto ke30 starter motor on my ke55e. they are somewhat different however but still fit. the original one had the solinoid sitting out on a 45o angle from the top and the auto one pretty much sits straight up. but yeah still fit!! :) Quote
thomo Posted June 18, 2006 Report Posted June 18, 2006 there is 3 different startermotors for k series toyota, the bosch, nippondeso, and some other thing, they all interchange, anything from a ke10 to a ke70 auto or manual, but sometimes you need to remove the LH eng. mount to get them in to the hole in the bellhousing if you happen to be putting the odd one into the wrong car (then you just put the mount back on when your done) Quote
mikeys toy[RL] Posted June 19, 2006 Report Posted June 19, 2006 i dunno, there was something different about the flywheel/ring gear on mine, it may just be demographics though Quote
