I have a dune buggy with either a 180b or 200b motor but I'm not sure which, the thing is its a pretty rooted engine and i want a replacement but not exactly sure what I'm looking for!

i know this, it has "K25" engraved on the block and "A87" on the head, and is a sohc.

can anyone point me in the right direction as to what will bolt up the same...is it 200b or 180b or what?.....

cheers

Brendan

The engine number will be the giveaway. L18= 1800cc 180B/ 720 motor. L20= 2000cc 200B/ Bluebird motor.

The A87 head is off an L18, but people put them on L20's as they're a good unit.

L18's and L20's are basically interchangable, like a 4K and 5K.

Hope this helps.

so any idea what K25 means?

do u think its an L18 head on a 2litre block?

its just i need a replacement engine and it needs to bolt up the same cause i have heard the 2 motors have different flywheels and arent interchangeable

Find the engine number. Look for the first three digits. Then see above.

Failing that, I'll ask a Datsun guru tomorrow about the K25 mark.

should be in big letters on the left side of the block, just in front to the engine mount L18 or L20B ive had about 20 of these and they all had it, but there could always be one that donest

the number is on the drivers side of the motor right down near where the box bolts to the motor, straight under the head

any 4 cyl L series will fit, stanza, 180b, 200b, 1600, Series 1 & 2 bluebird and 2x4 720's all have L's

so i could get any L series motor and it will bolt up? cause the enigne is mounted in the back like your average buggy and bolts to a volkswagon (i think)gear box thru a custom adaptor plate

i have heard different motors like l18 and l20 have different number of bolts on the flywheel and therefore aren't the same... if they are all the same then i should be able to get any L series motor and it will bolt straight up?

cheers
