  1. Getting some 210mm 7kg springs for the beast in the next couple of weeks :y: :o :bash: wont be put in until after regency obviously, but looking fowrard to dropping the car a little extra in the front! will see if the kyb's keep them captive (one the road) and decide whether to go for short strokes etc then. Will also get some pics of the wheels on there in a few weeks after its all back in, as i'll have a better idea of how it all sits when its dropped back to "normal" height! Also got another set of standard rear springs lined up (that are the same free height this time :sob: ), so getting closer to being ready for regency
  2. nah, they don't quite fill the guards - got the flared guards up front and they are inside them by a little, and a bit of room up back, which is good though as i couldnt have anyone in there before as it'd scrub - will get some pics up tonight, but it'll be with the standard springs in the rear. Wanted something a bit narrower though, so I'm glad there's a little bit of room there :)
  3. yeah mate, they're bigguns :) 185x60x14s - was gonna go for 175's but they didnt have any there ;) figured a slightly higher profile tyre would make it look a touch lower until i slap some lower springs in it - was running 60's on the hotwires, so not much of a change Um, they were $90 each i think
  4. Organised some rubber for the new toys this arvo - was just gonna go for some Nankang's, but ended up going with some Sumitomo Tyres that are made in japan - apparently alot better than the nankangs - i know stuff all about tyres, so who am i to argue, and were only $15 more each.
  5. Cool, thanks for the info! it does look like they are the same though hey! Thanks Philbey - looking forward to getting them on the car this week - looks like i've got a buyer for the hotwires so thats good too - pays for the tyres :y:
  6. thanks mate - pretty happy with the wheels - just gotta get some rubber on them some time this week and will be set. You make a good point re reverse mesh - just had a look at the "wheels guide" on AE86DC and the formula mesh does have the step in on them. This is on the back of the wheel though, which is confusing me now :)
  7. looking good lesley!!! Still running the aftermarket turbo on it? The exhaust looks heaps shinier than when i had it!!! :)
  8. they're pretty tame :D 14x6.5 +8 Was after some thinner wheels cause the ones i've got now were causing me some issues on the front even with a little guard work, so was just chasing something a little nicer looking and a touch narrower - just want it to look tidy and not get too much attention :)
  9. 4 look much better than 3 :D :y: ;) Hmmmm, SSR Formula Mesh  Was gonna sand blast the centres but they're not in that bad nick, so will just give them a good clean and have them on the car within a week if all goes well :)
  10. thanks mate - my mate has a sand blaster so will just be a matter of whether they're too big to fit in it - will see whether another mate can get em cleaned up at his work though if that doesnt work out. Will look into it - the current wheels i've got (hotwires) have just had the clean & spray job done and starting to flake off (i didnt do the job, bought them like that), so will give this way a shot! Thanks
  11. yeah, i was pretty happy they got here that quickly! i've emailed my chap who got them for me to see what he says, so will wait for a response from him as to whether there's anything he can do at his end :hmm: i'd love to slap them on the car now, BUT, its got the stock springs etc back in and i don't think i'd appreciate them as much like that. Will wait til its back from "regency" spec and get them on then. reckon i will spray them though cause once they go on the car they wont be coming off for a while :hmm:
  12. Some packages arrived for me today  only thing is, that there were only 3 of them :y: its only been about 5 weeks since they were posted, so will give it a little bit longer for the other one to arrive, but I'm going to be optimistic and assume they got separated along the way! Having said that, they look verrrrrry nice, and seem very light too - beautiful polished lips, and centres in pretty good condition. Might rip the centres out of them and give them a good clean and coat of silver, but we will see! Might duck out and do a mock fit on front and rear to see what the fitment is gonna look like!
  13. Went out and did a bit more work on the car this morning: mounted the fuel pump a bit more securely so its up and out of the way of everything, and also trimmed the hose coming off the pump so it runs in more of a straight line to the metal line: Not sure if regency will be happy with it as its mounted in place with wire, but will see  Also taped up and put a bit more paint over the front guards to cover the etch primer that was still there from last time, so that's mostly one colour now - definitely doesnt look like a good job, but the whole car will be attended to later in the year and i'll give it all a nice fresh coat then  Other thing i did was put the stock springs back in - didnt remember it being as difficult as it was last time i did it, but oh well. they're in now, BUT, the drivers side sits higher than the passenger - the springs were about 10-20mm different in height out of the car - is this right, or did i get a mis-matched pair when i bought these off someone? :)
  14. After a lack of work on the car, decided to get out there tonight and make a start on replacing the steering rack boots, which were hacked to bits, and one installed correctly from my last shot :) so, turns out it was alot easier this time, and appears i did it correctly (managed to get the tie rods off without too much drama, which helped). So its now wearing new booties, and thus leaves only a few more things to do (mount fuel pump correctly, get rear demister switch that works, or get it working, standard rear springs, maybe a quick coat of the front guards, and stock wheels). Watch this space
  15. Okay cool, will have a look into them. So you running spacers or anything with them? any issues with captivity of the spring?
  16. that's a good height IMO - low enough, and wont get any attention! Its what I'm after for mine! You running sw20 short strokes in the front of yours? Saw in your thread you were going to, but not sure if you actually did. Just curious to your setup, cause i've got standard ae86 kyb's in mine with king springs and its too high, so looking at the options now, and your setup gives the height i want atleast :) Edit - forgot you're running 15's on your beastie - i'll only be runing 14's, so will have an inch more between the guards i reckon
  17. I'd tap it ;) looking good mate! Did you chop and weld the bracket for the rear bar? I've got my front one on but rear one sitting in the shed as i read its a f$#k to do the rear one - should probably just pull it off and have a look! ;)
  18. I'm gonna be over waiting for them by the end of the week i think, so there may be a "pre-arrival" wheels sale i reckon :eatlead: Hopefully they'll be worth the wait! :bash:
  19. A piece of useless information for all except me :eatlead:
  20. nope, would rather wait til they're here to find out they're rashed to buggery :bash: They better bloody not be damaged :no2: Got the emissions test done today - rang them bout 1pm to see if it'd be ready to pick up, and he gave me the results - 2.2% carbon monoxide and 360 parts per million of hydrocarbons - the 2.2% was under what was required of 2.5%, but hydrocarbons max was 250 ppm, so obviously over that :n: the guy asked what i needed and i told him 2.5% and 250 ppm - he said they'd put it on another run and see what they could get out of it. Turns out they got it down to 0.9% CO and 210ppm for Hydrocarbon :y: he said "at the point of measurement this is correct", and then elaborated that they'd would back the timing for the test, then put it back so it'd run :hmm: So i've got my little test sheet from them which is good and another thing ticked off. THey did say though that the o2 sensor in the exhaust isnt working, so will have to sort that out :n:
  21. Confirmation just now that the rims have been posted, and are now all paid for - now the wait begins :bash: Hmmmm - tracking numbers FTW :eatlead:
  22. Thanks Matt! Its slowly getting closer to what i want it to end up like, so I'm pretty happy :eatlead: Got an email from my guy last night saying the rims had got to him and he was sending them off today, so guess the waiting game now begins :bash:
  23. Ah, see mine was reading slow, so didnt bother getting that fixed :lolcry: Although, before i realised the speedo AND odometer were both out (blonde moment i know ), i was wondering why i was only getting 300km out of a tank of petrol :P: I did get pricing on getting the speedo AND odometer fixed, and think it was about $350 (one place wanted $300 just for the speedo!!! :lolcry:). I think they put a "combination box" or something in there for the odometer which alters the signal before it gets to the cluster, as opposed to the speedo where they just recalibrate it on the inside of the cluster (may be wrong, someone want to clarify???). Just for reference, on the "ratio test" (1km run on rollers) my cable only completed 550 turns, whereas it should've completed 637 i think
  24. Yeah, i too was gonna go by that thread to work out what gears i needed with how ever many teeth my speedo drive had etc, but it just got too hard. Was only when i started making some calls that i realised this option was available. If i wasnt "making it legal" then i wouldnt have bothered to be honest :P: But i guess its nice to see exactly how quick the 4age is and how quickly it buzzes up the numbers
  25. Picked the car up this arvo with the speedo all adjusted and working properly - $180 well spent i think, as i couldnt be assed putting in new speedo drives etc  Took some rough notes of the rpm at various speeds before it went in (all in 4th gear) 40km/hr = 2000rpm, 2000rpm now = 60km/hr 60km/hr = 2600rpm, 2600rpm now = 80km/hr 70km/hr = 3100rpm, 3100rpm now = ~ 95km/hr The guy said it was out by about 15km/hr, but was also sitting below zero, which put it out more. So that's one more thing ticked off the list. Wanna sort out an issue with the handling though - not sure if its bumpsteer or a sh@gged steering rack - since i replaced the castor brackets (that the swaybar goes through), it seems to be picking up little bumps in the road REALLY easily, and taking the wheel with them. There is a bit of slack in the steering rack i think (only a bit), but not sure if this is it or if its just bump steer, so gonna look into that a bit more! GOtta replace the steering rack boots so will have a look then :P:
