Okay, I'm hoping they're then around that 6-7kg mark then, which i'd say they would be as they're an inch thinner in width and diameter than yours. It is alot of money to get them via EMS - think the quote was about 40,000 yen for 4x7kg wheels via ems, as opposed to 20,000, so double like you said. don't think i can justify $400 on postage when the rims only cost $280 :) Will give me lots of time to get everything sorted on it (all this compliance stuff, and clean up the body a bit), so that the wheels are the "final touch" :)

Thanks mate - yeah, pretty happy that no-one else bidded - was gonna go to 30,000yen, so i saved a whole $20 :) Like you said, now the wait begins. I'm VERY impatient so I'm gonna be wondering where they are by the end of next week i think :( Looked into a pricing to get em sent via EMS but it was like a couple of hundred extra i think. If it were only $70-$80 or so i'd pay it, but not that much. Any ideas roughly how much these suckers weigh? The guy is working it out on 7kg until he gets them to weigh. I've found weights of other rims similar, but not something like this. But my guy should hopefully receive them early next week, then send them off shortly after that :)

My bank account is officially going to be slightly lighter with the pending arrival of a new set of SSR Formula Mesh :) :( Only bidder, and ended up getting them for 28,000 yen :) So guess the old chevoit's will be up for sale sometime after i receive these (probably about 6 weeks or so via container) - if anyone's keen, let me know

Yeah, I'm hoping there isnt a mad rush in the last hour or two, but wouldnt be surprised if there was! Guess i'll find out later on tonight! Hmmmm, do i stay up and watch, or go to bed and look in the morning :bash: Just booked in the speedo recalibration too for next week! Just looking at the best way to replace the steering boots cause last time i tried i couldnt get the tie rod end removed :y: Might give that a miss until tomorrow arvo as i have to use the car tomorrow and don't wanna f$#k it up tonight :bash:
-
All booked in for 22/8 for the Regency inspection, so that'll make me get off my bum and do the final few things that need to be done (speedo recalibrated, swap rims for stockies, stock rear springs, steering arm boots). Getting closer! Oh, and 7 hours left on the yahoo auction and still the only bidder :bash:
-
Yeah, they look pretty clean - going from the outer lips they look nice and polished up so looks like they've either been taken good care of or cleaned up nicely! And yep, getting them off yahoo auctions - was looking to go through slidewize but found this other guy that's apparently really good and cheaper, so will let you all know how it goes! There's 17 hours left and I'm still in front, so time will tell if i get them! I agree - less agressive offsets are better for daily stuff You don't wanna be worrying about scrubbing etc and getting unwanted attention during the week :bash: I think your car would look good regardless of what size rims are on it though :y:

Finally made the decision to bite the bullet and buy some rims for the beast. With any luck i will have won them within the next 24 hours, and they will be on their way shortly after that: They're a "downgrade" from what i've got in that they're 14x6.5, but decided that'll be the size for me now as i want some more clearance and less potential attention. They're +8 offset so should sit pretty nicely and can use spacers to push them out a little more if required. Should know if i've got them by tomorrow night, so will see how it goes! From the pics they look like they've got charcoal/darker inners, so will decide whether to leave them as is or spray em silver when i get them. :bash: :y: :bash:
-
Thanks guys - definitely gonna go ahead with it then sometime over the next couple of weeks :S
-
The pic of your engine in my thread made me hunt down your thread to have a look - love it! The colour and rims are perfect - dunno if i could handle that little clearance (i have enough scrubbing as it is). Looks really good though! hopefully all of the issues with the 4age are sorted out and its all up and running without any problems soon! Keep up the good work!

Hows that for service? Thanks! I reckon i'll do the same - been looking at the cans every time i go to the auto shop but never committed :S have got a spare set of cam covers sitting in the shed that i cleaned up ages ago (sand blasted), so might get them out. What did you use to bring up the letters? Grinded them or something else? Looks good either way! Is it hard to keep clean, or cause its the wrinkle stuff it hides dirt and s#!t?
-
Cool, forgot how small the hole is under that piece of metal :S with a rubber gromet or something it could look quite factory like you suggested! Got any more pics of your engine with the black paint? thinking of spraying mine black (wrinkle maybe), but not sure!
-
You've been quite the help to me tonight adam :S might have to look at that as an option This is all we did - just a metal plate glued on - maybe i can get away with it if i spray it the same colour as the engine bay, as i've got some paint laying around? :D
-
Very average pic of the job my mate did for the cat converter to go in: On the "legal" side of things, looks like i just need to get the speedo recalibrated, put stock rear springs back in, swap with my mates wheels and MAYBE weld up a plate in the engine bay where the old clutch setup used to be before the conversion :S
-
Cool, thanks Adam! I figured cause there were two holes for bolts there that it had 2 bolts, but I'm fine to only have the two (1 each side) if thats all it had before! Might go out and check that mine is setup like yours - like you though, we just used the hole that lined up :S edit - just went and checked, and mine is the same :D thanks for clearing that up!

Greetings all, you may or may not be aware that i am in the process of making my 4age ke70 legal down here in SA. Last time i jumped under the car in my mates pit we had a good look at the underside of it for anything might stick out - and think we found something. For the ae71 gearbox crossmember, which now has the t50 sitting on it, we were only able to line up and do up 2x bolts (1 each side) with the existing thread etc that was there from the old gearbox crossmember. Main concern is this is going to look bad when it goes over the pits due to them no doubt questioning the structural strength of just 2 bolts, where there used to be 4. The other "holes" in the cross member to allow the other two bolts to be done up sits outside of the mounting points for the old cross member Have we f$#ked up the install of the crossmember (back to front or something), or have you other guys that have done it only secured the ae71 gearbox crossmember with one bolt either side? Can probably get a pic tomorrow when its dry if that helps! Thanks! :S

Which Speedo Cable When Going 4kc (ke70) To 4age?
turbo_rolla replied to adam-__-'s topic in Engine Conversions
I had the same problem as you when i did my conversion, and my speedo is about 25-30% out from what i've compared it to (i've got JDM 4age, JDM t-50, t18 diff). I was going to do all the stuff to fix it up, but rang around and decided that I'm just gonna get my speedo gauge recalibrated as i can't be stuffed having to do new drives etc - costing about $180 from memory. I'd rather pay the extra $100 or so to have someone else do it and not have to worry about looking inside gearboxes etc :S -
Ripped the newest sender unit out of the tank and with the help of my lady we tested it out - seemed to move all the way along the range of the gauge as i adjusted it, so it appears the sender unit is working properly, as to is the gauge. So have put it back in with the full tank of fuel, and will see if it starts to go down like it should as i drive it a bit more now. Will update with any results!

Tried whereis but nothing there, other than the dirt from when we just got the house and re-doing the lawn (Jan 06). Found one on google maps though: That google shot is under 12 months old as the caravan was sitting across the road from NYE. Probably summer going by the lack of grass! :no2: My car is tucked away behind the gate, with work no doubt in the middle of being done!
-
Yeah, that oddly made sense adam! What i need to do is get it out of the tank again, wire it all up, and move the float manually outside of the tank to see if the gauge goes up inside the car - i tried to do that by myself (a little difficult) and i think the gauge moved, but would be easier with two people :no2:

Hello All, got a slight issue with my ke70's fuel gauge. I did the 4age conversion a while back and a couple of months ago got around to installing an intank lifter setup (flowing to VL external pump). Had to drop the tank to do that, and got it all up and running. Only problem now is that the fuel gauge doesnt work properly. I've done some searches and found some info, but hasnt helped me sort it out. It does work though, kinda - if i take it out, put it back in and check the gauge it'll show the current fuel level - it just wont go down or up after that if i use the petrol/fill up. Pulled the unit out of the tank and had a look, and made sure there's sufficient contact in that little metal box (those who know the unit will know what I'm talking about), and the float is obviously working if its picking up the level when i put it back in, so I'm not sure. Oh, and the same is happening with 2x of the sender units (got a new one to try, but same thing). Any help would be appreciated - not sure if i have to "reset" it when the tank is full (ie take out of currently full tank, then put back in to get the "full" reading on the gauge) or what?)
-
Yeah, regency wont let it through with the rims, so i'll have stockies back on it. Happy to take the chance with getting a sticker because of "wide" rims and having to take it back through, but didnt wanna take the risk if it meant any insurance payouts were gonna be affected by it. I agree though falken - wider rims & tyres should = better grip, and make it safer - who knows how they think. But yes, 2" diamater, and 1" TOTAL increase to TRACK (as opposed to rim width, so be careful with offsets as you could have "legal" size wheels but be outside of the track. That's how it is in adelaide atleast (ie 26mm total track increase, which works out to 1/2 and inch each side.....) Like i said though, main concern was insurance and i think i've put that to bed - if i get defected then i get defected - couple of hundred bucks out of pocket, as opposed to thousands for insurance
-
One more call made to Shannons just now. The kind lad confirmed what i was told yesterday: So long as the width of the wheels arent the reason for the claim, then the claim wont be rejected. They would repair the rest of the vehicle, with the exception of the "illegal" wheels (ie he said - if you were turning a corner but the wheels were too wide within the guards to allow you to turn properly and you had an accident, you wouldnt be covered). So i think I'm happy to put this to rest, having got what i beleive to be a satisfactory answer from the horse's mouth. Guess the only thing we have to worry about are cops having a bad day!
-
Yeah, from the sounds of it, the main thing is to tell them that you've got all the gear on the car so there's no surprises if it comes time to make a claim. I've got full comp through them - the guy i was speaking to the other day (with the ae86) said "so you'll wanna insure it for say $5k" (which i was going to), and that worked out to about $460 for a year ($38/mth) with all the mods - cheap like a budgie  I've currently got in insured for $3k without the listed mods (not really driving it until its done), and thats about $360. Oh, and I'm not an old fart - am 25  i've had my car insurance with them for about 4 years or so now when i used to have a AE112R turbo sportivo, and they've actually been the cheapest (or one of) that i've found - even got our house insured with them as they were cheap for that too (AND cover the garage in the policy with $10k replacement...).
-
It'll either be a case of getting smaller wheels or letting the insurance company know what i've got on it. Will make those few extra calls today and see what kind of answers i get. From what i can see from the PDS it looks like they just wont cover that modification in the event of a claim
-
Thought i'd look at Shannons "Product disclosure statement", and found the following: “Modified” means that your vehicle has alterations to the manufacturer’s specifications which may affect its value, safety, performance and/or alter its theft risk. We reserve the right to determine whether an alteration constitutes a modification. We will not cover any modification that is: not legal; not approved by the transport department in your state. I can't see anywhere else in the PDS where they wont allow a claim because of an illegal modification - what i read from the above is that if you have an illegal modification on your car, they wont cover that modification
