  1. Sold :( Money is going to a better cause though :)
  2. It's back on ebay Possibly sold
  3. it was sold on ebay for $570 but the guy has not contacted me, I have to resolve the case before I can sell it anyway -_-
  4. Car's for sale guys.. every part included, selling as a whole. Well over $1500 worth of parts, asking $500. Blew another shitty bursons head gasket, and have no room at the new house to work on it :( Anybody's interested, give us a text or call. 0411 621 222
  5. Studs are in, as is the new O2.. Lot's of work to be done with tuning mixtures -_- I need a turbo weber jet formula, would save me all these fiddly little drives and adjustments..
  6. I didn't, my dad organized them through an engine builder he knows. I could ask for his detail's if you're interested in buying some. For anybody that's interested, individual part numbers are as follows: Studs: AM5.000-1LB Nuts: AMN12-1 Washers: AMW750N
  7. Head stud's arrived :) Also, a new O2 sensor
  8. Cheers, I'll give that a shot tomorrow :) Still leaning towards the air correctors though as the exhaust pops and makes a fuss, except if I keep pumping the pedal at the top end. Nahh I don't think so, i'll have to check.. Think I went to a colder plug when it was pinging to rule that out. Can't recall to be honest :/ What would you reccomend?
  9. Now featuring 5 gears :) Drives well, like having that extra fun gear. Pretty sure my mixture woes are due to the air correctors, as it stutters up above 4000rpm; but not below (At 10psi [i dropped it for testing, it'll stay there for now]) Won't know 100% until I get my replacement O2 :)
  10. Boost is set to 11-12 MPSI, I'll leave it there until I get the mixtures right after I replace the O2 Ultimately I want 12-13MPSI, I will say that it's building boost up nice and quick :D Will take it for a drive tomorrow hopefully and work on the ignition advance again. Gearbox will be picked up on Friday, busy weekend though so may not happen.
  11. Ohh yea, I bought a 5 speed trans also :D So I'll pick it up toward the end of the week, and MAYBE have it fitted this weekend? lol.
  12. FOUND THE MISSING HEAD BOLT!! In my sock drawer -_- lol. Anywho it's running and the BOV functions well :) Need to get a new O2 though, it's long gone :( After that I need to: check and correct my mixtures Possibly install a larger secondary acc pump nozel Check timing Plumb in external gate neatly Change exhaust possibly to a side pipe with a single larger muffler BUG BOMB THE SHIT OUT OF THE CAR, SO MANY SPIDERS :'( Set boost to 12-13psi (Manifold reading) Few ideas in the works after all that, but it's finally running again :D
  13. Hey, they're 1 1/4" mandrel bend mild steel pipes. I got them from Performance exhaust in ringwood :)
  14. Manipulated the heat-shield into position Carburettor has a brand new genuine gasket, so shouldn't leak petrol this time -_- Blow off valve is welded on New Ignition coil, HT lead and dizzy cap (To ensure a good circuit and a good spark with the increased load on the system) In addition, tonight I connected back up a bunch of hoses, refitted the waste-gate with 2 gaskets and new nuts. I then went to work on how I planned to hook up my pressure regulator, bov and gauge separate from the waste-gate to ensure a good vacuum and boost supply. Kinda hard to do neatly, so I'm taking my time while I wait for the head studs or missing bolt to turn up.
  15. I've gotten impatient with the head studs, so I'm slowly putting it back together and fixing a few things once the main parts are on. Somehow I've managed to misplace a head bolt (That was on my bedside table, but has somehow disappeared) Anywho, they aren't torqued down, so I'll just leave it on until I either find the bolt, or replace them with studs when they arrive. At least it's in a position that I can hook up most of the hoses and stuff again. Ohh yeah, my girlfriend made the heat-shield for me; another freeby from work :) Might neaten it up when I have some spare time.
  16. Few bits and pieces done today, I've started putting thing's back together... Somewhat. I mentioned that the head was machined, but never showed any pictures for some reason. Warp in the head Machining As you can see, it was quite warped over 2 and 3, most likely why the gasket blew out from there :P Thermostat housing is back on with a new gasket, WD40'd parts of the head to prevent rust while I wait for my head-studs; taking their sweet ass time. Finished painting my manifold again, put a bead of petrol proof threebond on the rim of my carby bowl to stop the fuel weep under boost (Which caused the paint to lift last time) I'll order a new gasket tomorrow because the one that came with the kit was shit quality. I also still need to make up a new gasket for the external gate, as the old one blew out; the rest of the gaskets (Head, manifold, etc) I've got now. I'll post a picture of the JB welded manifold all painted up when I get home, I intentionality left the rear two legs at the bottom untouched as a comparison as you can't normally see them. It looks better than normal, it could have looked excellent if I spent more time on it. I just got lazy with the file and sandpaper :P Anywho, as you can see on the right I did not put any JB/Cold weld on it the lower legs. I'll get my replica BOV mount welded on this week hopefully. [insert picture here]
  17. Been quite a while since I worked on the car, been very busy. Anywho, I've got the top half of the motor apart again for a few reasons. One of them being that my carburettor hat gasket was weeping under boost and it ruined the paint on my manifold -_- The other is that for Xmas I'll be getting ARP head studs! :) So the head is off, I have a head gasket (Will need a few others) and am awaiting the studs; Will update when it's all back together. Once that is done, if the motor gives way again, that's it. The only reason I'm going down this path is for reliability, not bigger numbers. Also, if anybody would like any measurements while the head and what not is off, feel free to ask. I was having issues with the second hand Blitz blow off valve having huge vacuum leaks to atmo.. Turns out the piston does not have any O-Rings -_- So after Xmas is all done and dusted, I'll just get an eBay replica HKS SSQV that is a diaphragm pull type; should solve my issue.
  18. Just a question, why is this thread in "Rides"? Shouldn't it be in "Technical builds" ?
  19. Mate of mine at work had a friend with a TIG welder, offered to weld up my blow off valve cheap. I should get it back later tomorrow :)
  20. Cheers, she's getting there :) Anywho I drove the car on the weekend again, ive pulled the timing right back as I want to set everything right incrementally. As previously mentioned, primary mixtures are perfect.. secondary's are on the lean side (which I believe to be the air corrector as it happens around 4k+) I also changed the air filer to a larger "Whale penis" setup.. For now. As an intended side effect, I have lost my nice little flutter and am left with a fully sick does :glare: So ill get around to a wrecker at some point and look for a suitable regular airbox, and I'm having my blow off valve welded on sometime this week. Anywho, here's the video:
  21. Back together and running :) Brought her up to temperature and set the carby up again, Ill bring it up to temp tomorrow, then re-tension the head bolts and re-do the tappets :) Replaced the manifold bolts all with studs, easier to install and remove when the head is on the engine. Gate gasket is blown, not a death sentence, but needs to be replaced later. For anybody that's interested Back together.
  22. I'd like to CC the chamber as well sometime this week if I get the chance, itd be interesting to see what the CR drops to.. I know the maths, just need a syringe :) Nahh, was too big.. its just a palm sized stone with a coarse and fine side used on the cast iron block, not sure as to how well it would work with alloy. If anybody uses that stone in the future, make sure you put a rag or gladwrap on the inside of the chamber walls before you start, its a bitch to get the fine particles out of the rings. I used a LOT of CRC, and clean rags to get it all out. My stepdad cleaned the entire head at his work in the parts bath, some intense chemical that you put in a drum with the part suspended and seal the top with water.
  23. I tried that idea just before I converted it, but It was getting too much air through the crankcase (I think from the spark plug cups) I also thought about (as you may have read) applying a vacuum via a pump ... but in the end I decided it was a patch on the real issue (That may have been a comment from somebody, and he was right if that's the case) I weighed up the advantages/costs and decided to bite the bullet :) Yes i'm running a rising rate regulator :) Nahh will spend this weekend doing that, all the part's are back though. Dad's thrown the new valve stem seals in, he's also ground the valve seats, cleaned the valves and rounded the chamber edges as I previously mentioned. Manifold is painted, but Id like one more layer of paint before curing.. But ill wait until tomorrow to see what it looks like when 100% dry before I decide.
  24. My VRS (Vale re-seat) kit arrived today, so will be putting some new stem seals in while the head's off. Anywho I've got some photos of the head, rocker cover and rockers all cleaned up; came up spectacularly! Rocker cover still needs a coat of paint, not sure I like the silver. If you look at the above photos for comparison, huge difference. Now my dad happens to have access to a milling machine, and has ground out the combustion chamber to drop the compression a little :D On top of that, he's putting a 45degree edge on the chamber face.. Apparently with the early VL turbo's that edge would be a cause of detonation at higher boost and well.. can't hurt to get rid of it :P
  25. DAMMIT PHOTOBUCKET, RESIZE ALREADY! Ohh Mr H! Let's see here, you have a 4k with a turbo and just fixed your radiator leak.. Well it says here you have a head-gasket.... Lol :) I suspected a while back the HG was gone, but never blew any smoke.. Untill I decided to patch the pinhole leak in my radiator and smoke the street out :P So today I spent the morning pulling my head off, heaps easier than I thought! Already was cleaning the block face in just over an hour. Anywho, some pictures are in order. Carby off again: Rocker cover off: Pushrod's and bolts ordered: Plugs that are normally not necessary to remove, but I'm having the head hot-tanked: Rocker gear removed and head bolts loose, some of them were NOT tight, so I suspect that is partly my problem: Quite a bit of water wept in overnight :P Culprit: Openings all closed off: Deck cleaning stone and required lube: Manifold is off getting a clean up and a black paint: Can you say detonation? :P If you look at the photo of the water in the block, you can see piston 1 is rather clean! Well they all are, that was just the one I had wiped over. Given that I suspect it may have been rebuilt a while back (Score!) I reckon the loose headbolts were because they were never checked after the rebuild. Anywho thats the update.. Ohh and before I fixed the raditator, I sorted my fuel mixtures :)
