  1. Hello All, I'm currently in the middle of swapping the 4K in my ke38 for a 4AGE. By "in the middle" I mean the engine bay is completely bare, the 4AGE is half assembled and that's all that's been done. So I'm not even really close to the middle. Anyway, I'm hoping the have the 4AG and K50 gearbox sitting in place in the next month or so. I work interstate so I don't have a lot of time to work on it all in one go. I'm at the point where I need to start worrying about all the ancillery components that means the car will make noise when I turn the key. This is my first experience with doing anything under a bonnet. So... can anyone tell me what puel pump I'll need? I've read on some other forums that some people use VL pumps and others use 225 Walbros. Everything I read was for a KE70 though. Not sure if it's going to be hugely different. Was hoping that I could source most stuff from a wreckers. Any helpful advice will be appreciated. I'll post some pics up of the build to date shortly. Cheers Will
  2. Righto. Looks like I'm off to a shop for some help. Was hoping that it could be done all DYI. Not sure if I'll replace the pistons and big ends though. They're in really good shape. I only took them out due to a tiny bit of surface rust in one of the bores. Ah well. RDO tomorrow so I'll see what they say. I'll post up what they said in case anyone else is stupid enough to get themselves in this situation? Am honing the block myself.
  3. That is entirely possible as this engine came out of a drift car and was turbo'd at some point. Some internal mods may have been performed. So...what happens if I just go and pop the pistons back in and hope for the best? They all seem to fit but apparently the stamp on the botoom is a tolerance designation. I may have to go and get some digital vernier calipers and see If I can sort it out that way.
  4. B.L.Z BUB, I'll see if I can find some. Lense was a little foggy though. Banjo, that would be ideal! Sadly no.
  5. Gents, I'm sure this is a story a lot of you can relate to... I was disassembling the 16v 4age I'm putting into my ke38 wagon. After taking the pistons, rods and bearings out, I put them into seperate bags and lined them up in order. Here's where it gets crazy... I was propositioned into a three way by 2 swedish ladies who came walking through the front gate. In the throws of passion, the bags containing said engine components got moved before I had a chance to mark the bags with their respective order numbers! CHAOS! Now, having finished the marathon session with my new foreign lovers, I'm back to working on the 4a. I've attached photos of the markings on the bearing end caps. As far as I can tell, three pistons are identical and one is different. Three of the pistons have a '2' on the side of the bearing end cap and a '1' on the bottom. The other one has a '1' on the side and a '3' on the bottom. Can anyone help with this conundrum?
  6. The thing is. I bought a run around for the princely sum of $280. Now, having only spent that much on the car, I figured I can have some fun with it and do something a little unusual and possibly a bit stupid. Figured this would be a cheap way of doing so. Agree with all of you. I imagine that the only way it could be defected would be if it had structural rust (although I think I'll look into before I go ahead with it). Plus...there is the danger of looking a bit of a douche.
  7. Hey all, Let me start by saying that I put the "rat rod" in quotation marks as that this word has been basterdized and I realise that what I'm referring to is not actually a rat rod. It's just the generally accepted term now. Anyway, having recently watched the latest mighty car mods ep, they rust up an old golf to give it the rat rod look. My question is, is this legal? I know it would be a beacon for the police anyway, but as long as you're not breaking the law that shouldn't be a real problem. Just annoying I guess. Has anyone done this or have any experience with these types of road laws?
  8. Thanks heaps guys. Coming up to the point where I need this advice. 4k out, 4a in.
  9. Hello Rollaclubbas, I've noticed that a lot of people out there have got T50 boxes but are in need of a clutch fork and throwout bearing to suit. Every time any of these parts come up for sale on the forums (or a T50 c/w these parts) they are snatched up in a matter of hours. Now, is there anyone out there who knows if these parts are available from an Australian store or even a website that you can order them from outside the country? I realise there is a difference between the ADM and JDM parts. But anything is better than nothing (which is what I've managed to find so far). I posted this as I am in need of these things and realised a few other people are as well. Cheers, Will
  10. autosol. right Cheers for that.
  11. Thanks heaps for that gents. I've settled on a pair of ssr mesh wheels. Arrived yesterday. 14x7.5 rear and 14x7 up front. O offset. haven't put them on yet as they need tyres. 4age on the way from newcastle as I type this. I shall be starting a build thread when the work gets underway. As my first ever modding project, it's going to be a steap learning curve. Looking forward to it. Cheers again. willanton
  12. Hello ladies and gents, I've just bought some 2nd hand ssr mesh wheels to go onto my ke38. The rear rims are spotless but the fronts are covered in what a can only describe as alloy grime...or lightly coloured rust. Not reeeally sure. I was wondering if I could get some tips on what to use to get them looking schmick. Pic to come later on today. Cheers
  13. Hey mate are you running a K50 5 speed with this setup?
  14. Hi, This is my first post. I've got a 1980 ke38 wagon that I'm slowly modifying to make it a more enjoyable ride. I'm not trying to build a tire shredder, just something that handles reasonably well and is comfortable to drive everyday. Am keen on doing a swap to a 7k as well. Having a bit of trouble sourcing one though (if everyone has got one, with the 5spd manual transmission, let me know!) I'm looking for a new set of wheels to put on it and have come across a pair of SSR MK1s that I think should look pretty good on it. I'm just wondering if there's any issues with the offset on a wheel like this with the old ke models. I know it will have a lot to do with the bolts used but I know it will increase the stress on the hubs (and/or axel?) The wheels I'm looking at are: Front pair - 13x8 - 19 Rear pair - 13x9 - 23 Any words of advice would be appreciated. Will
