The back looks very farmiliar. I saw one of them in the driveway of a mates place (a mate who knows nothing about cars) who lives in unit 2. I was drunk and it was really late so never worked it out. Was stock though

Coming along nicely Shape is into the wing now, and didn't take long at all on the bandsaw either. Now to do more work on the ends.
-
Further Photoshop jobs confirm I truely am insane :D :(
-
So I've basically gotta turn the top pic into the bottom one:P
-
Yeah Biggo, shaping is the next step. Want to make sure the ends are right first. Researching wing profiles as we speak, to determine the shape I have to carve. Once it comes along a bit further and my ends are shaped correctly and attatched I will be "paper mache" coating it then using body filler for more shape.

Todays Update... Viewed from above, the straight foam doesn't line up with the curved shape of the boot So I traced the shape on to the unused edge of my cardboard piece to make a template to trace on to the foam, traced on to the rear edge of the wing then measured distance between previously traced line and template for parallel at both ends, to make sure depths were the same size so the front edge matches the rear egde of the wing. These lines are on the bottom of the wing so I could cut it on the bandsaw with the convex arc down.:( So once cut it lines up with the lines of the boot But was still too long so i put 4 marks on the wing at the front and rear edges of the wing to line up with the boot. Then traced the straight lines between the marks getting it ready to be cut Once the ends were cut it lined up flush with the ends of the boot as well as everywhere else And then sat the ends under to have a better idea of how it's coming along:eek: That is all for now... Any comments invited.

That is so unfair. Confused as to why we didn't get the 2 door here. Very nice car, love the look of the Supra rims.

So John, can Teddy, Biggo, mine and the other early 80's works of art on this site convert you? Or you stayin old school :(
-
Oh my god, that is awsome hahahaha. How much did this turboing cost you?
-
Just did a search on this "mercury mistress" you speak of and all I have to say is... ................W T F? I'm not even going to ask how you came across that *shakes head continuously*

Just got home from work and having a good solid look at that green machine. Just to elaborate on what I've posted so far and to compare what I will do with mine I'll run over a few things for you guys... Top Left Pic - Mine will have custom sideskirts which I will make once I've done the spoiler and the alloys in that pic don't suit in my opinion. Not entirely sure what wheels I will go on mine yet, may utilise the corona rims I currently have on the car and just get the later 80's model Tarago centrecaps which look a lot fuller. And that is what I mean by "wrap around" rear bar as I mentioned earlier, only difference is I will be following the 'recess' in the quarter panel all the way around to the wheel arch. So some welding to be done (but not till i re-shell obviously) Top right pic - Having second thoughts about flat early upright front as I was going to go twin headlight on the early front. Still think I will go twin headlight but most probably on the later slant front like I have now with the headlights recessed as far back as possible (may even make one of the high beams removable for an air inlet for track use) Bottom right pic - God damn Bottom left pic - Sorry to end on a negative, but my wing will suit the lines of the car better and my bar will be dead straight. And are those holes??

Didn't get much done since last post, just had to help dad with some stuff thisarvo. Cut the profile of the top off to match the bottom...

First thing I have done today is lay a straight edge across the boot to get a few measurements of the curve. After writing down the measurements, masking two pieces of cardboard together and tracing a basic curve by bending the metre metal ruler, this is what I came up with... After cutting the shape into the cardboard the next step was to trace on to the styrofoam Then take this marked out piece to the bandsaw After cutting you can get a basic idea of its shape in relation to the curve in the boot... And looking at the cut edge and seeing the relief cuts is a good indication of where needed to be sanded first... Cutting revealed that the contact adhesive had eaten away more than I had thought... So I applied some more to a few offcuts which already had some on it, on the theory that the adhesive that has already cured is protecting the foam already so it will just give that little extra ridgidity at the join before I cut the shape off the top... So I thought I'd post up some progress while I wait for the adhesive to cure a bit. Looking at how much it ate and the size of the gaps it left you would think it is going to fall apart but it seemed really strong still, I was quite surprised.

Have done a bit of a photoshop job now to give myself and you guys a better idea... Bumper bar will not be black, will be same colour as car. Taillight surrounds most probably will be black but still undecided on wing... Excuse the poor shop job:P
-
Contact adhesive worked a treat, it ate the foam a little then seemed to work fine (tryed it on an offcut first). Seems to be holding sweet, just going to let it "cure" completely overnight before I cut it up mor on the band saw. Working on end pieces at the moment.
-
The bumpers will be removed and then the body work modified for a full wrap around bumper bar similar to an AE82 how it reaches all the way to the wheel arch. So welding will be involved. But for now I have started on what I can afford / do for the present time. Once the rear wing is prototyped I will do the side skirts. Bars are some time down the track yet;)
-
This is all I had to work with so I had to cut two pieces to the same profile (width and thickness) Cutting to correct width to match the other piece on the band saw Same size And now have to join so it is the length of the boot So this is where I'm up to now, don't have the right sort of glue to put the foam together so will sort it out later and put the ends on it.

Have done a bit of an idea/concept sketch today, the plan for some time down the track is to do a full bodykit for my car whether it be this one or the re-shell. Had to go to pick up some styrofoam for a mate who's flat out doing uni stuff and needed some so I grabbed a few offcuts for myself thinking I'll use them one day. Got up thismorning and decided f**k it I might as well do a prototype for a spoiler. Here's a sketch I did

Photoshop mods just to give you a bit of an idea... Don't know whether it'd be better off buying a pair of pano doors locally and doing the conversion myself or importing a coupe. Note: either way I still will have to get it engineered as i'm going to lean the c pillars and rear screen forward.

Thanks heaps for the feedback guys, and yes very satisfying to do work on your own car especially when all has been done on student budget so far. Apprenticeship hunting now and looking forward to pouring some money into the GE.
-
Other plans for the car... -Some sort of suspension upgrade, whether it be just springs and shocks or corona struts and brakes upgrade also (more research to be done) -Re-build the 4A-GE with a head port & polish, 256 degree cams, custom extractors (length and specs yet to be decided, more research to be done) convert to RWD, install with haltech computer (as a start) Once all the car is setup as I want it engine/driveline and suspension wise, I will purchase another shell (probably flat front early KE70 or something from overseas) and do a full re-build on the shell. All work done to the car so far bolts into original thread / hole locations so everything is simpler down the track.

Yeah r47107, Will put the grills on after i cover the box. Just don't wanna put them on before I have to remove the speakers as I don't wanna bend / damage trying to remove...
-
If you need measurements I'm happy to take them before I cover the box. It's quite a tight fit and this is box my third one, and I'm happy now
