The 2LTE has gotta be one of the worst engines Toyota made. The older, mechanical injected 2LT is infinitely better. Replaceable cyl liners, nitrate hardened crankshafts and bigger rods, main journals, and oil injection under the piston skirts... Mine was running close to 100kw on stock internals and epic boost levels. That said, the KZ (3.0) are light years better than both. MUCH more useable torque.
And its only usually the automatics that overheat... Radiator, double row a/c condenser, oil cooler and A/T cooler all shoved up front + Australian heat = Fail
I flogged the absolute pisser out of my LN61 on and off road, low range crawling, towing, down the beach... all up here in the sweltering tropics on a stock radiator and never managed to cook it.
Moral of the story is don't buy an automatic LN130 Surf... But a manual KZN130 should be relatively safe.
