  1. Plus it doesn't start up without me blippin the gas, pretty sure I adjusted the points correctly
  2. Dizzy governor part doesn't quite line up with cyl 1 at TDC, is this causing the problems?
  3. I screwed the mixture screw right in and back 1 n half turns for a start. Then after that at least another 2-3 complete turns to the left maybe? I was trying to do it by ear
  4. It would idle flat and smooth then suddenly rise up in rpm, then back to smooth... it was fluctuating. Took it for a fang and it didn't sound like a raspy 4k should, it broke up a bit towards the higher rpm range. Then I came up to the intersection around from my house and it just bogged down. At a crawl it would hesitate a bit when I went on/off throttle. Almost like I looked like I couldn't bloody drive ! Lmao I did what you said pretty accurate I hope, haven't used timing light yet. I just set the dizzy until the points were about to open then rardy rardy raaa... tightened it up etc. The hand marked timing marks on the gilmores is throwing me off a tad I think, its not accurate enough to get perfect.
  5. Alright guys, I've set points to roughly .40mm gap, plug gap to 0.08mm. I've attempted a re time , adjusted mix/idle screws accordingly. Ive almost got it perfect but the idle sounds a tad lumpy still? Would retarding or advancing the timing improve it? Just don't want to fiddle with it again and mess up the idle lmao. I showed my dads mate(qualified mechanic for 8 years) before I did all the above and he mentioned the float level in the carb was rather high, so we adjusted it. But the idle was still rough as guts. Could be a fuelling issue?
  6. Oh I also replaced the pump spacer to the block and it still leaks slightly ugh, any decent sealant I could use to stop this? Rtv? Silicone or copper based?
  7. Hey there, thanks so much for the detailed reply mate! Its a stock carb as far as I know, twin choke etc. Plugs are brand new, so gap should be fine. I'll get my dads mate to help me out, seeing as he's a starlet nut like me! Checking the points and timing was really the next step, just been flat out with work, haven't had enough time! We did fiddle with the mixture and idle screws, it idled alright for about 10seconds but still fluctuated from low to high rpm. I'll attack that at some point towards the end of the week and get back to you!
  8. If the points were out wouldn't that mean it would be harder to start? Fires up no trouble, just doesn't idle at a constant rpm, fluctuates then eventually bogs out and dies.
  9. Thanks for the link bro! I'm loving the positive vibes from this forum already
  10. I used to see this one driving around town and couldn't stop snapping neck every time. Funny to think I own it now! Lol bloody good wee cars aye!
  11. Yeah once she's warmed up it idles quite high then fluctuates
  12. Any good stickies you could link me to regarding timing? I know how to do it roughly, but don't have a timing light
  13. Gday guys, Jay here. Complete noobie to this forum so bare with me lmao. I recently brought a dream car of mine, 1980 Kp60 Bugeye starlie. 4k motor with twin choke single carb and Gilmore pullies. pretty standard. But To cut a long story short.... I brought this planning to get it road worthy. It ran bloody well up until after I put a fresh wof/reg on her and did a full service. I changed the motor n filter, gearbox, diff oils, plus coolant and air filter. The fuel pump had a slight weep from the gasket so I took it out, cleaned it up and attempted to repair it with some rtv lol. Then later that night when I was out she started idling quite low and rough. Almost to the point where it wouldn't idle at all! What would of caused this? Is there anyway of mucking up refitting the fuel pump? Any input on this would be amazing, miss driving it already and it frustrates me that I can't just fix it.
