  1. I hadn't replaced it, I only removed the original and put a new gasket on there. Its definitely a vacuum leak/fuel problem. Carb and intake/exhaust manny weren't even finger tightened down! Explains the bloody massive leak!
  2. Pump is in, cheers fellas! Need to buy a new outlet fitting tho, because its not the same size as the original ugh
  3. Awesome thanks so much bro! Do you have to set the timing to tdc for the cam to line up with the pump arm or anything along those lines?
  4. Are you ment to apply great pressure to start thr bolts?
  5. Awesome thanks so much bro! Do you have to set the timing to tdc for the cam to line up with the pump arm or anything along those lines?
  6. I'm pretty sure its the gravity suction version. Because there wasn't an external vaccum diaphragm?
  7. Hey rebuilder 86 have you got Facebook? Its just I only come onto the forums with my pc, thats why I'm not on here replying every second.
  8. I've got just the standard twin choke aisan single down draught mate, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to all this. But I'm learning quickly. Hey is there any tips on refitting a new mechanical fuel pump? I've got the spacer , but I feel it Doesn't want to line up/slot in right when I go to install it.
  9. I've played with the mixture/idle screws constantly since this started. It goes the best once you reset the mixture screw to 1 1/2 turns back from the screw being fully seated/screwed in.
  10. I'll redo the timing, sounds a bit tappy/pingy under load. I changed the manifold gasket and it improved quite a bit,. But is still present. Brought a new fuel pump, new plugs, coil and leads installed. alsio have the carb apart as we speak getting a good cleanse! Plus a fresh rebuild kit! I'll get back to you with the end result.
  11. Also feel like its dropt a cyl completely now ugh, doesn't sound like a proper raspy 4k up in the revs. Still pulls like mad tho, it rumbles like a subi. What the hells going on sigh..
  12. Alright I've installed the new gasket, holy jesus it pulls now! No clicking from the spark plugs or anything. Might need a new tune and time again tho, it still dies coming up to intersections in neutral. Also bogs a bit when you go to take off, after that it mangs like no tomorrow
  13. Thats what I was thinking! Screw thatt! How much did you take off?
  14. So file the flanges or on the head itself I'm guessing? Both mannies are already off the car so should be a piece of cake, gaskets are pretty much brand new, so don't wanna end up buying another one if this'll fix it fingers crossed
  15. Instead of taking it to a shop for a surface grind, could I do it myself? Don't think it needs a hell of a lot of surface removed Sorry for rushed typing, busy at work
  16. Oh bloody good! Yeah they're bolts not studs, I'll look into a one piece gasket then. Worth putting any sort of sealant on the there? P.s - Its not thw greatest town in NZ, I'll tell ya that for free lmao
  17. Hey guys I've been chasing a misfire/det for the last two weeks and suspected it to be a manifold gasket leak on my wee 4k in the second cyl. So earlier I ripped both manifolds off and to my surprise found them really easy to remove?! Gasket was near new condition, so I was thinking maybe previous owner didn't tighten them down enough? Causing the leak? How firm can you tighten these bad boys down? Anyone know the torque settings? or can I just keep them tighter than a nun LOL Just don't want to strip or round off the bolts... happy I've possibly found the cause to all this drama... cheers!
  18. Alright guys. I've almost resolved this! My dads mate did a retune and time to my little 4k bugeye and it pulls way better now! The over fueling issue is still there, quite hard to start and keep idling some cold mornings. But once shes warmed up its mint. Now my question is.... would a full rebuild of the carb fix this possibly? Because although it runs fine now, it still hiccups and has flat spots when you accelerate.... I've noticed the valve tap gets quite loud and it bogs/splutters when you dump the throttle. So I tend ro feather it on slowly and let it gain more speed before I add more gas. Could be detonating from too much gas maybe? It also overruns sometimes when you shut off the ignition and dies rolling up to an intersection. What would cause my carb to be dumping too much fuel! Ugh! P.s I've ordered a carb kit for it, so if this doesn't fix it I'm just gonna go 40mm sidedraughts lmao.. Any stickies or links for carb disassembly would be great also please! Many thanks, jayden.
  19. Nah nah you've helped just as much mate!
  20. I'm getting my dads mate to check it over today, I'll mention to him what you've said to me! Cheers heaps for the help guys, really appreciate it!
