  1. well finally figured it out and got it fired up today! :P dodgy wiring and connectivity on the starter motor, have fixed it and now purrin like a kitten again :fuzz:
  2. mean't I could turn the crank ok with the plugs out, I didnt really want it to ignite while I'm turning it by hand, with the propeller in the way...lol nope the plugs were completely clean apart from a little bit of oil (they were only replaced about 3 months ago), wasn't any water in there. I have to go out tonight but I will try and get the starter motor off tomorrow if I get a chance - looks like a pain in the ass where it is under the exhaust headers argh!
  3. well yesterday i pulled the plugs out and tried cranking the engine manually and it seemed to be turning. i've since bought a 2nd hand starter for $40 (incl shipping), so in the mean time i will pull this starter motor out and see what i can find...unfortunately last night i DID leave some lights on and the battery is completely dead lol - but at least if the starter motor is completely s*rewed then I have a replacement already on the way  in the mean time i bought a skyline to drive around while i figure out what's wrong with this corolla so not in a rush...though the garage is looking kind of full haha. 97 rx7 coupe 71 ke25 coupe 90 r32 gts-4 coupe my accounts arent liking me right now!
  4. haha I like the way you think :hmm: I wish though.... Just bought an r32 gts-4 coupe to drive around. my rx7 still needs a clutch replacement (NZ$2800ish for parts) unfortunately don't have the funds to do a rotary conversion in the KE25 right now  well I have been meaning to look at the car but have been soooo tied up organising rides to/from work and getting stuff sorted for this party tonight, but have had the car jacked up in the garage and checked out the wiring all seems to be OK, given the battery a charge off the inverter and that seems to be fine, the starter solonoid is still clicking, but I will check that out, the only other thing if its the starter could be that ive killed the starter motor somehow....can pick one up 2nd hand for about $20-30 in NZ so I might try that...if that doesnt work then ill look into the motor
  5. trying to roll start it in 2nd gear as usual, but just seems to be locking up. definately isn't the battery. fuel isnt an issue - thats coming into the carby just fine. will give that stuff a try tomorrow- its goin to be a bit hard being at the bottom of a hill but i will figure something out :) cheers for a few things to try guys. and yeah when i unbolt the starter might give it a small love tap with the hammer :hmm:
  6. cheers for reply man. its definately not the battery - ive checked that out just tried giving the starter a bit of a tap but hasn't made a difference :)
  7. what about spring spacers or are they not legal in aussie? $30-50 a set, crack the strut bolts, jack the car up to take the tension off, slip them in, lower the car back down and tighten the bolt back on... should give you just enough extra clearance to get rid of the rubbing
  8. OK first off the scenario. A few days ago, I was having problems with the starter motor on the 4K in my KE25. Got the car home, jacked it up and figured out that it was infact loose - there was only 1 bolt holding it on, and that bolt was completely undone. So tweaked it up and all was running fine. Here we are a few days later and I take the KE25 to work as I do every day (since my rx7 is broken too..its not my week). I go to grab some lunch from Subway today, which is about 4km down the road from work...car started absolutely fine, and I drive down to Subway and park up to go inside the store. Come back 5mins later to start the car, I turn the key and....nothing. Every time i turn the key I can hear a click (guess this is a starter solonoid?) however the starter motor isnt whirring or trying to do anything! I checked all the lights and stuff but thats fine, theres nothing that could possibly drain the battery that fast so I guess maybe something else wrong with the starter motor again. I checked the starter motor attached securely, starter solonoid is clicking, the coil is all hooked up and all the leads are on the spark plugs but nothing... So some nice guy tries giving me a hand to push start it, put it into 2nd...drop the clutch and it just locks up the wheels and skids to a stop... I've just now towed it home after work and tried to roll start it while being towed @ about 30-35km/h and still the wheels just lock up and skid until I let the clutch back out. Tried it again just rolling down our very steep driveway, but the wheels just lock up and the car just jumps and skids. Is a toyota 4k with a K50 (i think) 5 speed gearbox. original starter motor afaik, weber dcd carby. has a bosch coil with newish leads & ngk sparkplugs. car has plenty of coolant that I can tell, oil was just done only 1000km's ago Does anyone know what the cause could be? At first I thought perhaps wiring between the battery & the starter motor, or perhaps the starter solonoid - but even then surely it should still roll start? Was thinking maybe something has gone in the engine and its seized up, but then should the starter motor still not be trying to crank? I'm not THAT mechanical so perhaps someone that can point me in the right direction... Should I try smacking the starter motor with a hammer? :) I'm now carless until I can get this fixed as my rx7 is off the road for at least the next 3 months :hmm:
  9. have a 5 speed in my KE25 hooked up to the 3K, shitload nicer to drive with the extra gear @ 100km/h :P
  10. awesome, cheers man ;) yeah not sure what I'm doing for the booster yet - will be a 13BT conversion (cause we rock in NZ and can get away with it!!) so will probably look into a booster later down the track when I get a 13B block mocked up :(
  11. cheers guys :( I don't really want to be buying yet another master cylinder lol, am already spending plenty of $$$$ on it. Thats good info though - Jono, is that from a DC2 model integra? possible to get a pic of the setup under ur hood? also what did you do with the rear brakes, still running drums on the rear or did you upgrade the rear to disc as well? my drums are absolutely scr**ed cause of the dumbass before me putting the shoes in them the wrong way and looks like 1. It's going to be hard to source some replacement drums that fit, 2. It's going to be damn expensive too
  12. hey guys I was looking into a set of Type-RS RX7 rotors and calipers if I can fit them onto my KE25 - if not I might go a brake upgrade kit which gives me practically the same size however in both situations i need a 1" bore master cylinder. I have a brand spanking new series6 rx7 brake cylinder which I don't need for my rx7. is it possible to fit this to my KE?
  13. am modifying the rails that came with my bucket seats to fit in my KE25 - trick is making them come out looking like they came like that :) so you can't mount your seats to the existing KE35 rails?
  14. I haven't done anything to my 3K - it was modded by the previous owner. Can see in the pics though most of whats new and been fitted on. Maybe someone else can identify whats been used :)
  15. http://www.ravestyles.com/gallery-old/main...;g2_itemId=1089 heres some pics of the carby (minus the air cleaner) on my 3k
  16. cheers guys....I'm not after huge wheels, just something at least a 16" to fit the new brakes. effectively this is what i want it to look like (bar a different colour scheme) (what you guys think of our KE's in NZ? :S ) These are RS5's, what I want for my KE, I'm thinking these are 17s though which might fit alot better than 18's? As for wheel size limits in NZ, nope you can put wheels on as big as you possibly want as long as they don't 1. Rub on the guards/inner guards and 2. Clear the guard by a certain distance and don't stick outside the guard (but to get around this you can roll your guards and flare the hell out of them)
  17. Hey Guys, I'm wanting to pull the 13" hotwires & simmons off my KE25 and am looking to fit some new alloys, in particular some RS5's like these: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...n-155055049.htm Would I be able to fit 18" under the guards or would I need 17"? Also what sort of offset would I need to fit these? cheers :S The main reason's for the swap are 1. I like the look better and 2. The brake conversion I want to do I need at least 16" rims to fit the new hubs & calipers :)
  18. I have a 28/36 dcd weber carby on my 3k - i could take some pics this afternoon of how its mounted if you like? :S
  19. cheers robj :S i checked the globes earlier this afternoon and they looked fine, all of the rear light cables are taped into 1 bunch of wires, i traced that up to the middle of the trunk where it goes through the firewall - don't see anything unplugged so guess will have to trace it down through the car to the gearbox and check the connections!
  20. I'm unsure if they are infact needed here in NZ, our rules only stipulate you cannot have more than 2....yes we're f*ked up :S
  21. shit...do you think they'll notice if I don't have reverse lights for my cert :S hmm, might take it to a mechanic to have a look at, i'm really not sure what the wires look like that i'm supposed to be after for this
  22. was looking to get this kit here for my KE25 coupe from Phils Rotary's http://cgi.ebay.com/TOYOTA-COROLLA-KE20-KE...1QQcmdZViewItem shit they're expensive for parts (from what we get in NZ) but Phil's is unfortunately about the only supplier for most of these products :S
  23. Hey Guys, Kind of a noob question (sorry) :S I just realised that my 1971 KE25 has no lights when I put it in reverse, I just wanted to confirm if the old KE25 actually had reverse lights from factory?? I have to take it for cert next week and just need to sort out all the little things to make sure it passes. The old 4 speed box has been replaced with a 5 speed to match up to a 4k, so I believe from research that it must now have a K50 gearbox? If the car does come with factory reverse lights does it mean that the signal line hasn't been connected when the gearbox has been replaced? How simple is this to hookup? Any info/help appreciated! Cheers guys :)
  24. Didn't know that when I did it, plus I wasn't about to stuff around where the car was and figure it out on the spot, took it home to do. They're in now, took about 20 mins to get them into the trim ring & brackets (which arent in great condition) and about another 25 mins to fit them back in and readjust them - still need a bit of tweaking to do to focus them right for my cert. But i'm still after new brackets & trims for the rebuild if anyone can help! :lolcry:
  25. oh yeah never did an intro when i joined few months back :hmm: Name: Jarrod Location: Auckland Cars: 97 Mazda rx7 (batty) 71 Toyota Corolla (ke25) 99 Nissan Skyline (GT) Plans: Currently saving to do a huge engine upgrade on the rx7, slowly working away on my Corolla with the body work and getting everything sorted to strip it back and get some panel work done before getting the shell re primed & painted then rebuilding from the ground up with a 13b rotary engine :y:
